"Unfortunately, I cannot. For you see, I was sent here to retrieve you, and if I return empty handed again... alas, I will not live to see you saved from your cursed past."
His words sparked a sudden flow of information that L tried her best to push back as soon as it appeared. She knew that passing out right now would be the worst thing she had ever or would ever do. Instead, she laughed louldly at him.
"You've gotta be kidding me. I'm not going anywhere with you, and my past may be complicated, but it is not cursed. You should leave now... before you regret it."
L hoped her voice sounded as intimidating as she'd meant it to, and for a brief second, Sorence seemed to falter.
But he quickly regained his composure and smiled far too widely at her.
"You are a silly little girl. There is nothing you can do to me, and this time, you will not get away, no matter what tricks you may have learnt."
L eyed him warily when he began to move towards her. She wasn't sure why he didn't just try and grab her straight away. But that's when she caught the calculating look in his eyes and realised something. He was testing to see what she'd do. He wanted her to show her hand. To see if she was more powerful than he was. It gave L an idea, and she moved back to touch Bryce's arm gently.
"That's right, come closer, and I'll show you the worst of the tricks they showed me." L smirked widely and hoped her voice sounded convincing as she glared darkly at Sorence.
He was watching her more closely, and he stopped moving. "What are you doing? He can not help you. He is a vegetable, absolutely comatose."
L laughed humourlessly, "I don't need him to be awake for this. Oh, wow, you're even more stupid than I remember. Just keep walking forward, I can't wait to see what you look like as a pile of ash."
L couldn't think of what to do next. Her bluff would only last as long as Sorence was too afraid of what might happen. Biding her time was no good if nobody was coming to help, and what could she do against him? She rifled through the things she knew how to do.
The claws, speed, and levitation would help, but if she failed to use them to the best of her abilities, she wouldn't be able to save herself or Bryce. She watched Sorence looking between her and Bryce. He had a suspicious expression, and L tried to look confident in her bluff.
"What are you waiting for? Come and get me, let's see how far you get before you're a dirty smudge on the floor."
Sorence narrowed his eyes at her, which made them almost look normal, and then he sneered at her.
"I do not think I will need to do anything. My entourage is arriving as we speak. You will not get anywhere near that door before they are upon you, and we are taking you back with us. We shall kill everyone else, though. They are far too despicable to remain alive."
L wanted to kill him on the spot, but none of the magic she'd learned so far could do that. She knew the knowledge was in there somewhere, but accessing and applying it were the problem. If she did manage to find the information without passing out and it went wrong, it could counter and hit Bryce. She wasn't willing to take that risk, but she also had the Worcesters to think about and to get them out before more Demons came. She had to get them all out.
"Time is up, Ellie, my sweet little sugarplum. You might as well come willingly and stop any possible messy business from damaging you."
L shuddered as she listened to him. Things were looking more and more hopeless, and she was starting to panic. She tried her best not to let it show. She wouldn't give Sorence that satisfaction. In a split second, she made her decision. She let go of Bryce's hand, rushed forward as fast as she could, and jumped up high to kick Sorence square in the chest. The surprise of her speed and force of the kick shocked him and managed to send him flying into the furthest wall. He slumped down to the floor and looked dazed.
