She understood the magic in the flash of light and what it meant. Suddenly, she saw her parents bundling her away in a wicker baby basket. They were both crying while her dad was writing a note, her mum not letting her go until her dad had to pull her away. It wasn't until she felt pain in her arm that L came to. She was lying on the cold stone floor, tears were falling down the sides of her face, and Bryce was looking down at her in wild concern. He was the one injured and bleeding everywhere, so why was she the one on the floor?
She sat up quickly, and her head began to spin. She felt like she was about to throw up, and she saw Bryce smiling from the corner of her eye. It didn't cover up the concern in his own eyes, however.
"Point it that way, I don't need to be covered in vomit on top of everything else."
"Ugh, what just happened?" L's throat tasted funny, and it only made her head feel worse.
"I think you tried to find out too much too soon, and your mind and body shut down. I've seen it happen when young Elves try to access magic that's too advanced for them. I was right. You have been given full access to Keeper knowledge and abilities... In an ideal world, you probably would have been eased into it whilst you grew up, but the whole load was just dropped on you in one fell swoop."
"I understand all of the Keeper abilities stuff, just not the part about my body giving up."
L closed her eyes and took deep breaths. She focused on pushing the new information away for now. They didn't have time for her to be passing out. She opened her eyes and saw Bryce watching her in anticipation. They were wasting time while he was bleeding out, and she now knew he was coming close to the point of no return. Her new powers scared her, but she didn't want to say it out loud. Instead, she gestured around while she pushed herself to her feet.
"Do you think I'll ever be able to come back here?"
Bryce creased his brow and nodded carefully, "I think you will be able to. It is your ancestral home and was open to you without any force."
She wanted to ask again why he could get through when the others couldn't, but there was no time. They had to get him back to the Council.
She reached down to help him up. "Come on, we need to go. You can explain every single detail to me once you're better."
Bryce smirked a touch as he reached up to put an arm over her shoulders, "Do you think you'll be able to hold me up?"
He gave her a smirk, and L would have punched him if it hadn't been for his injuries.
"I'm pretty sure I can manage, but it's a long way back. Do you think you can hold out until we get there?"
"I assume you brought the big guys with you. I think I'll be able to manage just fine... who else came?"
While L pulled him up, she listed the group, and Bryce stopped moving when she mentioned Walter. She grimaced and held up his weight by herself.
"I didn't want him to come, but he made Emilia agree to bring him. He said you, and he had a bet or deal or something."
Bryce looked serious now, and he held a bit of his own weight as they started to walk over to the stone circle.
"I'm sure he did. We need to be careful when we get back. Don't tell anyone what happened in here. You came and found me then took me back to the group, that's it, okay?"
L could tell from the tone of his voice that something was very, very wrong, and she nodded.
"Alright, I don't suppose you're gonna tell me why?"
