LIANA began to laugh derisively.

Sirius winced at the noise and his eyes trailed down to the hastily written letter Grey had sent. Sirius had always known deep down he would have to be the one to tell Liana about the truth of Aubrey Bennet- Holly and Leonard, but he had blissfully ignored it for as many years as he could.

"Good one Sirius! I almost believed you then," Liana chuckled, the sound was forced however and Sirius could see the fear behind her eyes. The usually soft and sparkling blue had turned hard and cold as she looked at Sirius.

"Liana- I'm not joking," Sirius sighed as he sat down in the chair opposite her. Liana couldn't help her mouth falling open as she sat.

"No," she said under her breath and she shook her head, "no its not true y-you've made some kind of mistake, Leonard is my father-" Liana stumbled over her words, her desperate eyes looking to Sirius, hoping he would confirm that it was all a prank on her.

But Sirius just buried his head in his hands as he sat at the table.

"Liana- all Aubrey ever wanted to do was protect you," Sirius explained wearily.

"Well, she failed there, didn't she? She has been gone half of my life Sirius," Liana sounded cold now and she drew her knees up to her chest as she sat on the chair, wrapping her arms around herself.

"Liana, Leonard is not your father. Aubrey had- an affair while she was married," Sirius ran a hand through his hair as he looked at Liana. He had never seen a girl look so alone and lost before, Liana's bottom lip trembled slightly and she held a hand to her temple, stretching back the skin in a painful looking manner.

"I don't understand," Was all Liana could muster, blinking at Sirius in disbelief.

"Aubrey was not the perfect woman, Liana. In your head, I know she must be, but in real life, no one is perfect. I would know I grew up with her."

"Sirius I don't know if this is supposed to make me feel better but all its making me do is want to slam your head in the door," Liana stated, her voice thick with emotion that she refused to show on her face.

"Let me get to the point then," Sirius nodded slowly, "Aubrey was not happy in her marriage with Leonard. She often would say in letters how he was argumentative and they would often fight for hours into the night. Eventually, Aubrey got sick of him and left home for a day to meet with some- old friends. She had an affair for the next month. Leonard never found out the truth, he always believed you were his true daughter. Only Aubrey knew the truth for years."

"When did you find out?" Liana asked in a very small voice.

"I found out the day Aubrey disappeared," Sirius hung his head in shame, his dark hair hiding his face from Liana's view.
