She stole a few seconds more to make the absurd decision, and now she was wondering if she'd lost her mind this time. Bryce moved back while she readied herself. He seemed eager for this to work.
L looked at him squarely, "If I fall and you don't catch me, I'm gonna ask Vadim to do something extra awful to you as a punishment."
He chuckled and saluted her, "Deal, now hurry up and try it because the outcome will decide what we discuss next. It will also determine if I should even be telling you any of it."
L rolled her eyes at his garbled response, she shook out her hands and the rest of her body; she hadn't stretched enough for this but she didn't think she'd be able to do it even if she had. She looked at Bryce, who was watching in anticipation. She took a steadying breath to clear her mind of the doubts. She bent her legs and attempted to jump into the exact flip she'd watched Bryce do.
She expected to crash back to the ground in a crumpled heap. Instead, she felt the air hitting her face, and then the floor was back below her feet. She had landed almost as delicately as Bryce. She barely made a sound, and she looked at him to see how she'd done. His face was a mask of delight mixed with something else. He took a step towards her, and L thought he looked thoroughly impressed now.
"Just as I thought, it worked, you do have it, and more. You just did the very same flip I did. Even the landing was pretty much the same. How do you feel?"
"Fine but confused, how did I even do that?" L stopped for a moment and shook her head. "It still doesn't really prove anything..."
"It does, it proves your... abilities, are manifesting themselves. I'll show you more in a minute, but are you sure you feel okay?"
L took an internal check of anything that might be wrong and came up empty.
"I feel fine, so what abilities are you talking about? Professional flipping? Because that would be cool, but it's not really a Supernatural ability."
Bryce chuckled, and L almost thought he was about to squeal in delight.
"Oh no, that's only the beginning of what you'll be able to do, but in the meantime, we need to have a little chat if you're going to come with me to rescue the Worcesters."
L's eyes widened in surprise. There was more to discuss first? Why couldn't they just talk as they went? She kept her complaints to herself, however. She was more interested in the fact that he was considering letting her go with him. She didn't want to rock the boat in case he changed his mind again.
"Did I get these abilities from my parents then?"
Bryce's mood sobered, and he moved back over to the fireplace, gesturing for her to sit down on the sofa and only spoke once she had.
"You did and a lot more besides. They will become more than just abilities but actual powers that you can use whenever and however you like. Here's a bit of history for you, but I'll try to keep it as short as possible. Your parents were what we call Keepers; a small and very powerful race of beings. They keep and store all of the knowledge known to our world; records on each species, stories of their origins, what they can do, their weaknesses, etc.
"The reason they're Supernatural however is because they store it all inside themselves. And they don't just gain knowledge on each species but also their abilities and powers too. They just have to learn about and watch said beings; gaining a Vampire's speed, an Elf's magic, an Ogre's strength, anything.
"It makes them one of the most powerful beings on the planet but also the most protected. Every species has a stake in their existence. Imagine the Werewolves becoming almost extinct or they start to forget the ways of their race. They could go to a Keeper and find out everything. Or if there was a war between two species and neither side remembers exactly how it started. A Keeper would remember precisely and also help to reconcile the situation, maybe resolve the war at the same time."
