Survival

23 3 2

Scared and struggling
are the sad truths of a striving nation,
Whose subjects are barely surviving
     from one another.
Screams of the suffering are calling out for a saviour
As soldiers push for unfair order.
Spilling unnecessary blood and spreading the sickness of corruption,
The people try to escape until the violence subsides and the superior give up
so that they can return home
only to suffer the same attack a second time.
With broken souls, battle scars, and burns from where the fire got too close,
The surviving shield themselves in homes of sticks and clay
Speaking softly, "Imana ikurinde" -
May God protect you.
