So she stayed quiet and only spoke when Bryce asked her something. They walked through the evening in relative silence. It had gotten dark quickly, which meant the temperature plummeted. It wasn't as bad now that they were further south, and L felt quite warm in just the jacket she was wearing. She pulled her hood up against the wind, however, and carried on moving. They walked a few more miles until they reached another town and proceeded to the train station.
They had managed to make it just in time. The last train of the night was due to stop on its way through; either they were very lucky, or Bryce's planning was exceptional. L was leaning towards the latter. Either way, she didn't care as long as it sped up their journey time.
Their train ride was uneventful. There were a handful of people on board, and they all kept to themselves. Regular people going about their regular lives, while L was checking Bryce's reaction to be sure there was nobody to worry about.

It was the early hours of the morning when they finally reached the last stop in the line. They got off the train to see the sky lightening through the gaps in the buildings.
"We walk again from here, but if we keep our pace, we might get there by tonight if we're very lucky."
L didn't want to burst his bubble, but they hadn't had much luck since meeting. She didn't think that was about to change any time soon.
She followed him off the platform and away from the station. They were in a tiny village town now, and L pondered how far south they were. A few minutes later, they reached a junction, and she saw a sign that read, 'London - 30 miles' and her eyes widened. They'd travelled over three hundred miles from Mullfield to this town.
She couldn't help thinking there must have been quicker ways of getting through that much distance, but she also knew better than to question Bryce's methods. He'd rant on about keeping attention off of them and how he had skills that kept them off the radar, well, almost off the radar.
They continued walking out of the village and on through the morning, L was feeling tired again, but she didn't complain or show it. She walked beside Bryce, matching him step for step. She smiled at his lack of noisy footsteps and how it just made sense now. According to shows on TV, Elves were supposedly agile and light on their feet, moving swiftly and silently wherever they went. A piece of information she could now verify as true.
"How many Elves are there at this place you're taking me to?"
Bryce turned to her in surprise after so long in silence. "Quite a few, you'll see when we get there, and yes, there are an assortment of other beings there too, but we'll try to introduce you to them gradually."
L's thoughts raced as she pondered what other creatures could be there. Her list of what did actually exist was increasing, and it reminded her of something.
"So, you didn't explain the situation with this bracelet or why you just let that Fairy... Elisie, give it to me without a second thought. Did she know something about all of this?"
The look on Bryce's face was unreadable, and he took a few seconds to answer.
"I let her because, like I said back on the bus, Fairies are beings of good. I knew she wouldn't have harmed you. Fairies also hear a lot of chatter... they're so small they're often overlooked, and Elisie had heard something about you. The bracelet was an impressive gift, though. Fairies don't just give away their magic like that. You should treasure it for the rare honour that it is."
L peered down at part of the bracelet sticking out from the edge of her sleeve and tucked it back under. She didn't want it to get pulled at by the wind.
