The Peacock

Here he stands in greatness

Colorful feathers spread in full

No shame, quite priceless

Truly a symbol of the goddess.

Every bird bows down at his sight

Either in awe or in fright

Seeing him cloaked in colorful hues

Spite-filled towards his kind.

"Look at the others, so ugly

But look at me for I am so lovely

Here I stand at the pedestal!"

Says the peacock, so prideful.

A bird of no beauty crosses his path

The female of his species.

Still with his head held high

"No! She is unworthy", he denies.

But his heart continues to cry out

What a fool he truly was

Ignoring the growing pain in his chest

Thinking he deserves only the best.

As she approached him, his heart beats faster

Their eyes met and my how he had fallen

Though fallen into great despair

He was but a blurred image to the peahen.

She just passed by him, completely unnoticed

Going for the other, it made him quite pissed

"Why him?! Aren't I the one?" He questioned

Shouting at the female in aggression!

"Sorry, but you're not for me" She replied

"Nor to anyone for that matter"

"Though you feel love yet it's empty inside"

"For you, your "majesty", are full of pride!"

He flew away in anger

Away from the forest, away from her!

Only to be shot dead in flight

Realizing, "Oh God, she was right..."
