(Narrator)

Lyla has always been a unique girl.

She was born with brown skin, which was kind of strange considering both her mom and dad are white.

She had lips that fit her feminine shaped face perfectly. They weren't thin nor too full. Her nose also fit her face perfectly.

She had the most beautiful big almond shaped eyes with an exotic color. They were a mixture of gray/blue, green and brown. When you look into them it's as if you're seeing all the elements of nature mixed together.

She was also born with a full head of loose kind of tight curly thick brown hair.

Again this was strange for their small town that only consisted of white people, including her own parents. With their blonde straight hair.

People around their town thought they had done something to the baby that made her come out, in their words, so weird looking.

As you can tell this was at a time where racism was at its highest peak. Though she wasn't black she wasn't white either therefore they didn't really accept her.

As if her 'odd' appearance wasn't enough she was also a weird child.

When she was young her parents didn't really think much of her talking to herself or of her imaginary friends. She was just being a child, letting her imagination run loose.

Right?

(Lyala's pov)

Ever since I was young i've been the weird one, the odd one out, the outcast.

Not only because of the way I look but also because of the way I am.

I thought it was normal, you know to see things that shouldn't be seen, to hear animals talk and understand what they're saying, to feel things that shouldn't be felt.

When I was younger, around 10 or so I was walking down the grassy ground in the forest, trying to escape the dirty weird looks most of the town gives me.

I hadn't been paying attention to the directions I was going to because I was looking around at the trees and flowers that had been wrapping themselves around some of the trees trunks.

I smiled at how they looked, they looked as if they were hugging eachother telling eachother stories about what they think and just loving eachother.

I know you probably think i'm weird now too huh?

The thing that brought me back to reality was me almost tripping on the root of a tree. I had said sorry to the root feeling bad for kicking it.

That's when I noticed that I had came in deeper than I usually do. I had began to panic but felt comfort when a soft breeze passed by.

I noticed that there was a slight movement behind the root of the tree I had tripped on. Me being me went to investigate on what it might've been.

I slowly crept up to the tree and looked behind it. I wasn't surprised when I saw a small little human hiding inside of a bush.

It looked scared so I whispered some comforting words and when it didn't answer I had asked if he knew the way back home. When he didn't respond I smiled and left him alone.

"Bye, I hope to see you some time again" I had heard a small timid voice say as I walked away.

I don't know how but somehow I knew exactly where to go to get back to my house. Once I had I ran into the house screaming for my mom excited to tell her what I just witnessed.
