Blubber simply waved a three fingered flipper at Megan, as her gaze stayed on him.

"Millenia ago, Atlanteans were all surface dwelling humans...until the continent sank." Percy looked at her.

"By necessity our ancestors used science and sorcery to adapt to life beneath the waves." I took over. "Since then, the populace of each city-state has evolved along its own course."

"Now Atlantis is a continent of diversity...and our capital, Poseidonis, is the most diverse of all while the Conservatory draws the best and the brightest from throughout Atlantis." I continued.

"It's wonderful my world could take lessons. Should take lessons." Megan commented looking at me.

"And are you two typical of the surface?" La'gaan swam over closer.

"Not exactly..." Connor answered as Megan swam over to Lori.

"I've always loved mermaids!" She quickly shifted to mimic Lori's form, causing her to feel in surprise. "What do you think?!"

"I am...flattered?"

Connor looked at Megan's tail and based off of the smiles on each of their faces they were talking over the link.

"Well...this has been charming." Ronal started swimming away. "But I should go."

"What's the matter chum? Feeling outnumbered?"

I kept a careful eye on Sha'ark, almost missing it as Percy narrowed her eyes at Ronal.

"So what's it really like on the surface?" La'gaan questioned Megan and Connor.

"Other than drier." Blubber added.

"And tastier. Know what I mean, chum?" Sha'ark towered above Connor.

"Kaldur!"

I turned and smiled. "M'gann, Superboy. These are my dearest friends, Tula and Garth."

"Oh what am I then?" Percy elbowed me.

"You are both welcome in Atlantis..." Garth grinned.

My gaze drifted to my friends' entwined hands and I could could feel my features fall

"Yes, any friend of Kaldur's is a friend of ours!" Tula also smiled, oblivious to my discomfort.

Although I should not feel this way. I never confessed my feeling until it was too late.

Percy placed a hand on my arm.

"Are you okay? I shouldn't have teased you about Tula earlier."

"I am fine Percy."

"Like my fine or your fine? Cause you know there's a difference."

I ignored her as I saw a familiar figure swimming by.

"Topo...?"

I swam after him, lightly grabbing his wrist. "Topo, I want you to meet my friends..."

"Uh...maybe some other time..."

As he tried to pull away, I noticed something.

"What is this?" I pulled him to a stop and moved his torn shirt to the side.

Ancient runes were marked onto his chest and my eyes widened.

"Oh gods..." Percy gasped, reaching out a hand to move some more of the fabric. "This..."

"Topo! Who did this to you?!"

Topo quickly pulled the torn fabric together, my friends rushing to his side.

"It does not concern you, Kaldur'ahm." Lori glared at me as she swam alongside the others.

I watched as Sha'ark swam after them.

"Ah, Squidboy's chum. And chum gets what it deserves. Swallowed."

Percy grabbed onto my arm, nails digging into my skin.

"I couldn't read those marking...?" Connor sounded confused.

"They are ancient Atlantean runes." Tula explained.

"Spelling what?"

I could hear Percy swallow.

"Impure."
