Small-Town

Day 1: Fake

"Jakey I don't know how to ski" Vanessa whines "Why don't you stay here with me?" 

I mimic puking to Sam who returns with a laugh. 

"And why don't you suck it up and stay here by yourself?" Emmet whines"Maybe you can read a book and actually learn something" 

"Okay that was good" Zach laughs. 

"That's enough guys!" Jacob snaps "Just because I've moved on and Claire hasn't doesn't mean you have to attack me and my girlfriend every time you get!" 

"My girlfriend and I" Kayla fake coughs. 

"Oh please, I've moved on" I laugh. 

"Then where's your boyfriend? Wouldn't he of came on this trip?" Jacob scoffs.

I make eye contact with Sam. 

I give him puppy eyes, and it works. 

He nods his head.

"He did come on this trip, Sammy? You're present aren't you?" I ask. 

Emmet chokes on his water. 

Jacob freezes. 

"Oh..." Jacob mumbles. 

"Yeah" I say, crossing my arms. 

"Who's ready to go?" Carlos asks, walking into the room. 

He freezes seeing the intense glare I'm giving Jacob. 

"Are they ready?" Aspen asks from the front door. 

"Go on without us" Jacob says, grabbing Vanessas hand and dragging her upstairs. 

The rest of us start walking to the lodge. 

The walk was silent for the most part. 

I finally caught up with Sam and instantly apologized. 

"Don't be sorry Claire, But can we please tell everyone else it's fake? Emmet and I have kinda been..." 

"Sneaking around?" I ask "I've noticed" 

We laugh looking at the ground. 

"You know I'm always here for you Flare"   Sam says. 

"I know" I smile. 

We then tell Zach, Emmet and Kayla what's going on and they all agree to go with it. 

"Don't worry Emmet, I don't feel that way about her" Sam whispers to Emmet. 

I give Emmet a wink and that makes him loosen up.

We all got back to the cabin after a long day of Snowboarding and Skiing. 

"Hot tub time!" Emmet shouts. 

"I'm in!" I agree. 

"Me too!" Zach shouts. 

"Me three!" Kayla and Sam yell. 

We all separate to our rooms and agree to meet each other in the hot tub. 

When I get changed I walk out of mine and Kaylas room and close the door. 

I turn around to be meet with Jacob leaving Vanessas room. 

Jacob looks me up and down and bites his bottom lip. 

"Don't even" I mumble, walking away. 

"What?" He asks. 

"Nothing" I snap. 

I walk out to the porch and climb into the hot tub. 

Soon everyone showed up and we were laughing and telling stories. 

We are in there for a while. 

Aspen brought us out smoothies with chips and dip.

It was the best. 

"I think we can all agree, that this will go down as the best holiday vacation in the history of vacations" Zach says. 

"I'll drink to that" I say, raising my glass. 

"To the best holiday vacation" Kayla says, raising her glass and Zach following.

"to family" Emmet smiles, Raising his glass.

"To fake, and real relationships" Sam said, while raising his smoothie. 

We all cheers and laugh.

It's moments like these you want to cherish. 

The eyes of the hurricanes are always the best. 

In this case it was the eye of my senior year.

 I had my friends and my family. 

 The year was almost over. 

I was graduating in 5 months. 

And who knows if I'll ever get this again.
