Mal

I grabbed my Chemistry book out of my locker and cradled it in my arm. As I was about to shut the door, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in my mirror. I looked back into the mirror and straightened a few stray pieces of blonde hair. I ran my fingers over my purple tips. I liked my purple hair, I thought.

I shut the locker door and turned to go to class, but instead ran into Ben. "Hey, Mal!" he said.

"Ben!" I exclaimed, startled. "You scared me."

"Sorry," he said. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go on a picnic with me later today."

"A picnic," I repeated. "Um, yeah, sure."

"Okay," Ben smiled. "I'll see you later." He leaned down to kiss me, and I pulled him into a hug. My thoughts were racing. Why the hell did I just do that? Ben pulled away, giving me a half smile and a wave. I waved back. He walked away, and I sighed.

"Did I just see you dodge a kiss from Ben?" a voice said from behind me. I turned around and ended up face-to-face with Evie.

"Yes," I sighed. "You saw that?"

"I did," Evie confirmed. "Trouble in paradise?"

"No," I said. "I don't really know why I did it."

Evie laughed. "You're so weird, Mal," she said. "Don't you have a class to get to?"

I glanced at the clock. "Oh my god, I'm going to be late to Chemistry!" I waved goodbye to Evie and dashed off to my Chemistry class.

"Evie, can you tell me how this looks?" I asked, peeking my head around my closet door.

"Yeah, it looks great, Mal," Evie said, not lifting her eyes from the outfit she was sewing.

I sighed a tilted my head. "E, you have to actually look at the outfit to give me an opinion."

Evie looked up at me. "I'm sorry, M," she apologized. "Let's see." She glanced over my outfit. "Change the shoes. Wear those cute gold heels you have. Let your hair down. You look better that way. Maybe add a necklace." I smiled and turned back to my closet. I held up a pair of gold heels. "Yup," Evie said. "Wear those ones." I quickly made the changes she suggested and turned back towards.
Evie smiled and clapped her hands. "You look perfect," she said.

"All thanks to our resident fashion expert," I said, smiling back at her. "Thank you."

"Of course," she said. "Now go get your man." Suddenly, I hear a knock on the door. I made my way to the door and opened it. Ben was standing behind it. He started to speak, but then hesitated when he saw me.

"Mal, you look amazing," he said.

"Thanks," I said. I turned to Evie. "Bye, E."

"Bye, M," Evie said. "I'll be here when you get back. And Ben, have her home by eleven."

Ben laughed. "Of course, Evie," he said. She laughed. I stepped outside, closing the door behind me. "Ready to go?" Ben asked me.

"Yeah," I replied.

Evie

I laughed and shook my head as Mal stepped out of the room. He's good for her, I thought. She deserves someone like him.

I heard the door creak. I looked up to see Doug peaking his head behind the door. "Can I come in?" he asked.

"Sure," I said. "I'm just adding the finishing touches to this dress." I looked back down at the dress as Doug closed the door behind him. I examined the outfit. "It's missing something," I mumbled to myself.
