Add layers above the palette layer and name them:

The skin should be on top, always, then hair, eyes, teeth, clothes
It's easier to color when in that order

When doing the base colors use bright colors instead of the ones on the palette

Use protect alpha on that layer and color it a different color (that's how I do my colored lineart)
This setting allows you to change the color of the layer without affecting the uncolored parts of the canvas.
I do this to make sure I didn't color over the lineart

When making a palette make sure to go from lightest to darkest color
Don't use too saturated or vibrant colors, don't use colors that are too dark neither!! Search palettes at first! Or look at other art from artists that have a similar coloring style to yours.
