Here is the chord Cmaj:

C E G.

If we want Csus4, we raise the second note to the next note on the key scale, in this case, Csus4 is C F G.

If we want Csus2, we lower the second note to the next note on the key scale, in this case, Csus2 is C D G.

Dmaj: D F# A

Dsus4: D G A

Dsus2: D E A.

Remember, sus4 = raised second note to next scale note.

Sus2 = lowered second note to next scale note.
