Part I: Beam hates camping

Third Person POV

“Pha, I’m telling you, this is a bad idea.” Beam complained as he got off the bus, hauling his heavy backpack. Phana already knows that Beam doesn’t like any outdoorsy activities, but here they are, at the start of their 3-day 2-night camping trip.

“Oh, come on Beamie, it’s gonna be fun! Just like the old times.” Kit butted in, patting his shoulder.

“Shut up, Kitty!”

Beam can’t blame him though. It has been almost a year since it was only the three of them. Ever since Kit started dating Ming, and Phana had Yo, Beam rarely had time with Pha or Kit alone.

Today was the start of their summer break, and unfortunately, the boyfriends of those idiots left them behind. Wayo had to go with his parents for a family trip for four days. Ming has to attend his cousin’s wedding in Bali and won’t be back the day after next. To ease the loneliness, the genius Pha suddenly thought of camping.

“I know guys, I miss this trio too. But we could actually go to other places for a vacation! Somewhere comfortable and relaxing.” Beam whined as they hiked their way to the campsite.

The campsite is quite far from the foot of the mountain, and it’s obvious that Beam’s back is starting to ache with all the heavy stuff he is carrying.

“Ai’Pha, help me carry some stuff. Ughh...” Beam called out to Phana who is already several steps ahead.

“Hey, you had the lightest load in all our camping stuff. I have to carry all our gears and Kit has the food and drinks.” Pha retorted.

Beam just huffed and puffed and pouted as they march uphill.

“Who told you to stuff your entire closet in your backpack?” said Kit.

“Hey! Everything in my bag is essential.”

“Yeah, like matching shoes for every pair of pants and shirts. Such a princess.” Kit snickered.

Beam just rolled his eyes.

“Just bear with it. It’ll be comfy when we settle down in the campsite. We’ll have a campfire, and have some drinks and barbecue.”  Pha smiled.

“Yeah right. Comfy while eating badly prepared food. How about the toilet? The shower?” Beam is clearly not happy with this setup.

“Don’t worry about that, I heard there’s a creek near the site.” said Kit. “For toilets, well, the woods is your bathroom, you can just dig a hole if want to go number two.”

“What??! Ugghhh...” Great. Beam thought.

“Hey! It’s fertilizer, it’s good for the plants.” Pha chimed in, and high-fived Kit.

The two idiots laughed together.

“Fuck you two.” Beam is not having any of it.

They carried on, but then...

...

“Aaahhhhkk!!! Ahhh! AhhH!!!” Beam was now suddenly jumping up and down, and his screams can be heard from a mile away. “Get it off! Get it off! AHHH!!!!”

Phana and Kit immediately dropped their things and ran to Beam before realizing what was happening.

Kit was trying too hard not to burst out laughing. While Phana has his mouth wide open. He knows Beam tends to overreact, but this time the scene was really hilarious.

“Beam!... Beam!” Pha shouted over the still squirming and panicked Beam. “It’s just a lizard!” He can’t help but let out a snort. Followed by three or more snorts.

“Oh, my God!!” Beam is clutching his chest. “Oh, God.” Trying to calm himself. This trip is gonna be far from enjoyable.

Kit however on the background was already laughing his ass off.

Beam’s ears turned red. “Fuck you, Kit! I thought it was a snake!!!”

“Yeah, I heard! … snakes can jump…. or fall from trees, too!” Kit teases in between his sniggers and wipes a small tear from his eye. It was really funny.

Phana just looks at Beam in amusement. Their friend is such a drama queen.

They continue their hike. Kit still cannot move on and continued teasing Beam, and Beam just sulked all the way.

They arrived at the campsite at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. There is plenty of daylight left so they can still see the whole campsite with some tents already put up and scattered across the clearing. It really is camping season at this time of the year.

The trio got busy putting up their tent. Beam doesn’t really know how so he just takes Pha’s orders.

“Ai’Forth, what a surprise!” He heard an excited Phana.

Upon hearing the name, Beam perked up his head and confirmed it was really that person who was approaching them. Great, just great.

It turns out the engineering gang also went on a camping trip.

“Hey, Pha! You are camping here too?” said Forth, the head hazer from the Engineering faculty.

“Yeah, three days, two nights. Quality time with my best friends.”

“Sweet!” Forth replied and nodded at Kit. Kit just replied with a dimpled smile. Then Forth looked at Beam with a deadpan expression. Beam just glared at him.

“By the way, we’ll be having a campfire and barbecue later.” Pha shared.

“Nice! We were gonna do that too after a quick swim at the creek.”

“Why don’t we do it together, the more the merrier.” Pha offered. Beam just can’t believe what he just heard, his glare shifted to Phana.

“Are you sure?”

“Why, not?”

Forth looked at the glaring Beam, then he smirked.

“Alright, then, I’ll tell the boys.” Forth said as he turned his back and went to his group’s tent at the other side of the clearing.

“QuAliTY TiME WiTh mY BESt fRieNds~” Beam mockingly imitated Phana after Forth was out of earshot.

“Hey!!!” Pha scolded Beam. “Ai’Forth is my friend, too! His gang are good boys.”

“Yeah, they’re cool and fun!” Kit joined in.

“Whatever!” Beam hasn’t forgiven Kit’s teasing. “Pha, you said it’s just the three of us.” Beam sulked again.

“It’s just for tonight’s campfire.” Phana said calmly, he’s already used to Beam’s grumpiness. “Also, calm down with the glaring. If looks could kill, Forth is already double dead.”

“Yeah, why do you dislike Forth so much?” Kit asked.

“I just don’t like him. I don’t like his face. So cocky.” Beam said.

Kit just raised his eyebrow. “He is good-looking, though.”

“He is not cocky, it’s called self confidence, Beam.” Phana explained.

“Whatever!” Beam wants to end the conversation.

“Just admit it Beamie, stop denying.” Kit starts teasing again.

“Deny what?!”

“You have a crush on Forth.”

“Ew, yuck!” Beam made a face, and went inside the tent.

Pha and Kit just high-fived.
