The Call

Her voice echoed around my mind and my heart pulsed violently. It had been months since I had last heard her voice, and now that I had, I wasn't sure how to react.

Countless times I had rehearsed what to say to her when we were reunited, but as the phone slipped from my hand, her voice continuing to question, I knew I would never be prepared for what

we were going to do, however necessary.

Picking the phone back up and pointing it towards my ear, leaning down once again to speak into the mouthpiece, I repeated my previous words;

"Hello... Sheila?"

I heard a soft inhale, then a shout in the background, one that sounded like the figure that should have been my father-in-law, in a world that could have accepted us for what we are. A loud smash followed the shouting, and I flinched on behalf of my love, who I knew would have no escape from the situation just yet.

'I love you.' I breathed.

The line died, the call ended.
