IX. tryouts

"alright, and since you are the captain and co-captain, it's going to be up to you both to present the tryouts to your classes. got it?"

jaehyun, yukhei, and the rest of the basketball team were ordered to meet with their coach before the day of university began. the group now stood all in the locker room, huddled around their coach. jaehyun stood proudly ahead of all the other boys and yukhei next him.

the coach had a task for the team. he assigned the boys to display basketball tryouts to their fellow pupils of the school, and to do so, two members from the same first period were to present to their own class. in this case, wong yukhei and jung jaehyun were to work together.

"yes, sir. we understand perfectly." jaehyun spoke up. he looked to his right, over to his best friend. yukhei had his head tilted down and his eyes were closed. how was he asleep? jaehyun frowned and quickly elbowed him in the arm.

"isn't that right, lucas?" jaehyun gritted through his teeth. yukhei's head bobbled upward and his eyelids fluttered opened. he made eye contact with his coach.

"ah! y-yes, sir. absolutely. 100 percent understand." yukhei stuttered.

the coach eyed the boy up and down, cocking an eyebrow.

"really? restate word for word of what i just asked you." coach mocked the boy.

yukhei's ears turned bright red. he heard the boy's chuckles all around him, including a small jungwoo's from the corner.

"whatever. get out of here, all of you!" the coach chuckled and stood to leave for his office.

"we just give them details and the date when tryouts occur, and we're done. easy." jaehyun quietly said to lucas on their approach to the front of the classroom. the two walked up to the center of the floor.

the whole class stared down at them, interested in what the handsome boys had to say. jaehyun stood and smiled, showing off one of his dimples.

"hello, class. my name is jaehyun, and this is my friend, lucas. we're standing here today to inform you guys about the basketball team." he began.

"we are a team of men who all work together in harmony to enjoy the game we play. basketball is all about..." yukhei's deep voice continued as he talked more. jaehyun looked up to see all of the students listening. he peered over to where seulgi was sitting.

there she was. so gorgeous.

seulgi sat at her seat, reading a book that laid in front of her. her right hand held a pen which tip she used to chew on. her long, brown hair was gently strewn down her face, hanging, as her head tilted down in the reading position. he could see her eyelashes flutter everytime she blinked.

jaehyun blushed.

'wow' he thought to himself.

separating his eyes from the beautiful woman, jaehyun found himself looking at the other students in the classroom.

at the top row, there were two girls whispering to each other and pointing to lucas. next to them was a boy who fell asleep on top of his papers. next to him..

lee taeyong.

he sat there in his chair, statue-like. taeyong's face was still, motionless, as well as the rest of his body. he was godly.

jaehyun found himself blushing for no reason at all.

taeyong stared intriguingly at lucas, listening to everything the boy was saying. was he interested?? jaehyun wondered why a guy like him would be interested in a game like basketball.

'a guy like him' he thought again. jaehyun didn't even know him, what was he even thinking?? he had no idea who this kids was.

suddenly, taeyong looked over at jae, shaking him out of his thoughts.

taeyong stared the boy down, glaring as he did so. yet again, jaehyun found himself unable to look away from his coal, dark eyes. the blush on his face was uncontrollable at this point.

this eye contact lasted for several seconds, and neither of the boys made an effort to break it.

"ah, jaehyun..?" yukhei's voice broke through. jaehyun blinked. he looked over to his friend.

"huh?" he said, almost inaudible. there were subtle chuckles from all around the room. yukhei raised his eyebrows.

"i was just telling the rest of the class about the dates of these basketball tryouts. care to tell us when??" yukhei said, gesturing to his friend. jaehyun went silent for a few seconds.

"oh, ah, right," he said, cursing himself mentally for getting distracted, "yeah, uh.. the dates for tryouts will be this friday from six to eight o'clock. so, if you are interested at all, go ahead and come test your skills. we are all looking forward to seeing you there." jae finished with a nod and a small smile.

why on earth had he had gotten himself so distracted?

taeyong only looked at him because it was his turn to speak, he was trying to tell the boy to talk, jaehyun was sure of it. so why was he feeling so hot?

there was no other possible reason for lee taeyong staring at jung jaehyun.

no other reason.
