Chapter 2: Set Free.

Lilly jumped awake, yanked back into reality as her wings faded away.

Gunfire echoed off the walls, and Lilly froze.

Were they attacking each other?

Had someone infiltrated Hydra?

Hope bubbled up within her chest like boiling water, and a smile broke out on her face.

She could leave, she could fly free.

"Over here!" A female voice yelled over the gunshots.

"He's getting away!"

Lilly felt her hope sink slightly.

The bad ones always did.

"Damn it Barton! He got away!"

"Hey! It's not all my fault, plus our mission was not only to capture him; we have all these people to save."

Lilly scoffed at the Male voice. There was no prisoners. None that stayed past a day, anyways.

Hydra didn't keep souvenirs.

Lilly was all alone.

"These cells are all empty Nat." The voice said again in a serious tone, all previous humour gone.

No. No, they were not all empty. Lilly tried to open her mouth to let them know that she was here too.

Give me back my wings, give me back my wings.

Scratchy noises left her mouth as she struggled to use the voice that she had not used in a long, long time to do anything other than scream her agony.

"This way Nat, I heard something."

A soft whisper escaped Lilly's lips, and she gasped in surprise.

She tried again.

"W...wings..s"

The footsteps stopped, and started to come towards her.

Lilly lifted herself groggily off the floor, and she dragged herself towards the bars.
She slammed against them, creating a loud rattling noise to resonate off into the darkness.

"Come...come back..." She croaked out, sagging against the bars.

"He...help..please..." she rested her head against the bars.

They were gone.

Lilly held back a sob, and her breathing quickened.

No. They would be back. She would get out of here today.

She pulled herself up, fingers slipping against the rusty metal.
