Andrew

Chapter One

I was born on December the 2nd 2054, my mum was 31. My dad left her when I was two years old.

I lived somewhat of a normal life... up until I was eighteen.

When I was eighteen scientists came up with what the call an anti-aging pill. They needed people to try it so I offered myself as a test.

It worked. I didn't age. My mum took them too.

My grandmother Michelle Jones disapproved of them. She was like sour old grapes... well that's how I thought of her.

My grandfather Peter Jones always argued with her saying that Michelle is her own person and so am I and we can do what we want to our bodies.

They fought a lot over the issue.

When my grandmother turned 78, she died of old age, yet my grandfather still had some life in him. When she died, he was not sad, he did not cry, and he started taking anti-aging pills. I wanted to know why he wasn't sad and he answered, "My heart belonged to someone else a long time before her, and still does. She is out there somewhere..."

"Who, grandfather?" I asked.

"Her name is Dakota Slater."

My grandfather took me into his study, and showed me a box he had. In the box was pictures of a young lady, around my age or a bit younger, with curly red hair and piercing green eyes. In all the photos stood my grandfather, younger of course. He looked just like me. Jet black hair and bright blue eyes. He looked around my age then. One photo of her didn't have him in, it was an old photo that didn't look like it was taken at the time of colour. It looked to be from... 1960's...

My grandfather explained that she had not aged since she was 16 and that she was born in 1909.

He gave me the picture of her to keep.

My grandfather moved in with me and my mother.

Every Sunday afternoon he would sit me down and tell me more about Dakota Slater.

And even though he was his love, I felt myself falling in love with her, without even knowing her...

Once my grandfather had told me every story about her, he then told me, that he will live till her can see her one last time.

He also said to me, "Andrew, you're a nice boy. You could catch any girl's heart. But the person you need to look after, is Dakota. Please."

He fell ill, yet clung on all those years.

Centuries later, a war started.

My grandfather told me to go to war. He said, knowing Dakota, she'd go, wanting to serve her country.

So I went to war.
