Tyler grinned.

"Does that mean you'll help me get out of here, miss?"

"Oh, only the best for you, sir."

Amy helped him grab a grey cape with a big hood to hide his face slightly, as well as the curly hair he inherited from his father. She also prepared a horse for him, as the town was too far to walk. She lead the horse by its reins until they were out of the castle.

"Have fun out there, Tyler! This effort better not be wasted!"

Tyler put up his hand in a goodbye, not looking back, but his eyes focused on the town he was going to.

The moment Tyler walked through the gate, after binding his horses reins to a tree and letting it graze happily, that something was off.

The gates were open and people were dancing and singing. There were flowers and banners everywhere. A lady with a big dark braid with red flowers in it walked past. He tapped her on the shoulder.

"Excuse me Miss, I am but a wanderer. Could you tell me what is going on?" he asked.

She smiled and twirled around.

"It's the flower festival, wanderer, don't you know?"

With that she skipped away. Tyler was left to stare behind her shadow.

"Flower festival, hm?" he mumbled to himself.

He looked around, past the dancing people and the smiling faces. There were rows of little stalls. Candy, bread, beer, flowers, fabric, you name it, they have it.

Tyler walked over to him. People shouted to him, pointing at their stuff. He felt a little overwhelmed. He stopped by the flower stall.

Behind the flowers was a small boy with a red cape and blue flowers in his brown hair. He was sorting bouquets on colour until there was a rainbow of flowers in front of his little stall. Tyler looked over at the boy – who still didn't notice him as he was leaning over the flowers. Blue eyes, matching the flowers on his head. The tips of his fingers were green and brown from the flora and there were stains on his clothes. He was wearing ankle boots with the laces untied. He came over as common and a little airheaded, Tyler thought.

Suddenly the boy's head snapped up, looking like a deer in headlights. He finished potting the rose – at least that's what Tyler thought he was doing, he didn't know anything about plants – and skipped over to Tyler.

"Hey, what can I get you?" the boy asked, eyeing Tyler up and down. His smile was bright and his hands kept moving.

"I, uhh –" Tyler didn't really know what was going on, let alone how to answer that question. What was the proper etiquette? Should he introduce himself first? Because that's what Tyler wanted to avoid at all costs.

Apparently he had been too quiet for too long because the boy took his silence as a sign and started looking around in the maze of flowers. He took one of them and took it carefully in his hands. He stood up on his tiptoes, leaning over the counter. He presented the flower to Tyler.

"This is a Gardenia Jasminoides, or a Cape Jasmine," the boy said. He turned it around. "It's one of my favourites. Please take good care of it."

He stood on his tiptoes, leaning over the counter. He tucked the Cape Jasmine behind Tyler's ear, disappearing partly under his hood and into his hair.

Tyler wanted to look away in embarrassment but all his classes on how to be polite yet stand his ground told him otherwise. He forced himself to maintain eye contact when the boy gave him a blinding smile.
