Well we say that, and providing you all submit a story then no eliminations will take place! Better yet, we're reopening submissions! That means that anyone - yes, anyone! Even if you've already entered the SmackDown contest and have either dropped out or been eliminated - can enter! And providing you submit a story that adheres to the prompt given below, you will progress to the next round!
You might wonder why we're doing this and honestly there are a couple of reasons, the first being that we're pretty sure those taking part are having an awful lot of fun, therefore spreading that fun can only be a good thing, surely?! The second reason is that we really did not envisage so many dropouts - though of course we're all well aware how often life gets in the way of writing! - so we figure the more the merrier!
There is another reason, of course... Because why not?!
So without further ado...
The Prompt
Skara Brae is a stone-built Neolithic settlement, located on the Bay of Skaill on the west coast of Mainland, the largest island in the Orkney archipelago of Scotland. Consisting of eight clustered houses, it was occupied from roughly 3180 BC to about 2500 BC.
What must life have been like for the residents of Skara Brae?
Tell the story of a fishing or hunting party caught out in a storm, and the trials & tribulations they go through, to get home.
You have until midnight BST on Sunday, October 14th, which gives you a little under four weeks to complete this round. At this time, the submission form will be closed and all contestants will progress to the next round. That one will feature eliminations!
Once complete, submit your story via this form. Only those stories submitted via the form will be accepted and eligible for judging, but do feel free to post the link to your story in the comments' section below to allow your fellow competitors to read and enjoy your efforts.
5000 words is a guideline. You won't be penalised for not reaching or, indeed, exceeding that count.
NOTE: The images and video posted above are not part of the prompt, though should you wish to use any information contained therein you're free to do so.
