1 year later

I jumped out of the window right before the room ignited with fire. I could feel myself slowly falling, like everything was in slow motion. Then, I came back to reality as my side smacked the inflated crash pad, and a sharp pain erupted in my stomach. Gavin pulled me off of the crash pad, and I stood up shakily.

"You okay, Adams?" He asked.

"I'm fine, Gavin." I said and coughed.

"Go get some oxygen, lieutenant." Gavin said and playfully nudged me towards the aid-car.

I walked to the aid car and sat down on the stretcher. I grabbed the oxygen mask and held it up to my face for 20 minutes. When I was finished, I put my helmet back on and went to help the guys fight the fire.

"Adam, go back to the aid-car." Gavin demanded.

"I'm fine. I barely inhaled any smoke. Just let me do my job." I said and sprayed the fire.

After the fire was out, I drove an aid-car back to the station. I took off all of my gear before cleaning and restocking the aid-car. As I was finishing up, a pair of arms slipped around my waist, hugging me from behind. I turned my head to see Owen, and he smiled. He squeezed my waist and pain erupted in my side.

"Fuck." I muttered and pulled away.

"Did I do something wrong?" Owen asked, worriedly.

"I think I busted a rib when I jumped from the building." I answered and clutched my side and stomach.

"Let's get you to the hospital." Owen said and walked me towards the exit.

"Owen, I'm on call. I can't leave." I scolded.

Owen turned around and led me towards my dad's office. Owen walked right in, and the sight in front of us was shocking. My father was making out with some lady police officer. Owen and I turned right around and left the office. We walked outside of the station and Owen drove me to the hospital.

"I can't believe that my dad is having an affair." I said in disbelief as we pulled up to the ER.

Owen led me inside, and I explained to a receptionist what was going on. I filled out some paperwork, and then a nurse took us to a room. She took my vitals before leading me to a bathroom to get a urine sample. After that, I walked back to the room and waited on the bed.

"Are you okay, honey?" Owen asked.

"I don't know, Owen. Something doesn't feel right." I said and laid down on the bed.

30 minutes later, the doctor came in. She poked and prodded at my stomach for a while before deciding to do an ultrasound on my belly. She left Owen and I alone while she went to get the ultrasound tech.

"I'm really scared, Owen." I said as I felt tears forming in my eyes.

He came and sat down beside me on the bed and grasped my hand tightly. He brushed the hair out of my face while running his thumb along the top of my hand.

Soon, the doctor came back with a machine and an ultrasound tech.

"Have you had one of these done before?" The tech asked as I pulled my shirt up.

"Yes." I answered.

She put the cold gel on my stomach and I shivered. I felt Owen squeeze my hand, and I calmed down a bit. I closed my eyes as I felt the wand gliding across my stomach. I heard the buttons of the computer clicking, and I felt the pain as she pushed on certain places.

"Well, good news is that none of your ribs are broken." The tech said as she moved the wand down towards my pelvis.

"So what's wrong with me?" I asked.
