Chapter 7. The Flames

Newt's POV

"So what happened to Teresa?", I asked.

Gally's face goes pale
"What should have happened to her?", he asked back playing dump.

"You know exactly what I mean. You said she was on the building with Thomas, you also said that she helped pushing Thomas towards you but after that you didn't mention her in your story again? So I was wondering... you know I have a bad feeling that's all"

Gally sat there wide-eyed and horrified, then he finally spoke
"Let's just say that you have good instincts"

He stood up but I pushed him down by his wrist, he tried to avoid any eye contact at all.

"Gally what happened?"

I watched as Gally took a deep breath.

"As I said, the fragment was destroyed the town was a warzone so...", he sighed again.

"Teresa was kneeling on the rooftop we tried to help her but suddenly there was a loud noise... I watched as Teresa turned towards the noise there was a gigantic building it broke down I think she knew what would happen next... she didn't even try to get on the carrier she looked at Thomas when the building broke down and she fell into the flames she had this expression on her face as she looked at Thomas... you could see that she was at peace with herself again"

I feel my head run wild so I was right and Teresa really wasn't a life  anymore.

I honestly don't know how to act on this kind of information.
She betrayed us that's true but she also sacrificed herself for Thomas.

"Why didn't you want to tell me?", I asked.

Gally looked up to me, he had a weird expression on his face, like he was curious why this was my only question.

"Cause I know you were friends... weren't you?"

"Honestly I don't know... does that make me a bad person? Because I don't feel bad that she isn't a life anymore... I mean she betrayed us but she also saved Thomas but I don't know how to think about her anymore she made so many mistakes... some of them for the right reason"

Gally puts his hand on my knee to comfort me.

"Shank, you're not a bad person because of that... honestly I think you're one of the nicest and kindest people I have ever known. She betrayed you the whole time and you still think of her as "some kind" of a friend. If I was you I would be blessed that she's dead. I mean it's mean but still. Look I didn't know her that well, not as much as you and Minho did but I can tell that you have a strong and good heart, cause you feel bad for being mad at her"

I smiled at Gally.

"Maybe you're right"

Gally pets my chest,
"Of course I'm right Greenie"

I laugh and shake my head lightly at his response.

"So what's next? I mean you can't hide in this cave forever. I hope you know that Newt?"

I let out a heavy breath,
"Yeah I know... but I can't face Thomas, not now!"

"But sooner or later you have to!  Time doesn't change that much even if you want it to.
The only thing you're doing is pushing him farther away instead of getting closer to him.
If you wait any longer you'll only cause him more pain"

I don't want to hurt Tommy... but I can't.
My mind is still in the way, it keeps telling me to stay in the darkness of the cave...
