Today I woke up pleased because I woke up on my own not by a loud annoying voice that belonged to a certain someone

And I knew exactly why, her lefe was being brought today

And she was probably too excited to even think about disturbing me

I realized I had a lot to do so I stood up and I took my shower and I got ready

I went down to see everyone just going around and cleaning up

I wished everyone good morning

I met mama at the dining table and I hugged her before she hugged me back

She was literally glowing, she looked so happy and it wasn't even the wedding yet

The last time I saw her this happy was when we were still a full family with baba around

My father and mama got divorced five years ago, we often see him time to time when he feels like he needs to see us and he sometimes helps with my school fees, also when he feels like it. My mom does most of the hard work to keep us comfortable and that is one of the many reasons I love and admire her so much

My dad definitely favored his other family over us, and we had learnt to adjust to that

"Good, you are downstairs now, go and sweep the living room with Maryam" Mama told me

I nodded before turning around to see Ya Nadia coming out of the kitchen

"Ha'an!, meh amarya takeh yi ah gidannan har yanzu?" (Ha'an! What is the bride doing in the house till now?)

It was tradition for the girl to leave the house when her lefe is being brought

"Toh yanzu Zan tafi ai basai kin kore ni ba" (I'm leaving now, you don't have to pursue me)

I smirked at her before going into the living room to help Maryam with cleaning it

Maryam is a middle aged lady that comes to the house in the morning and leaves in the afternoon, she helps with our household chores, but she's like family

We exchanged greetings and I did the dusting while she did the sweeping

When we were done I decided to help mama in the kitchen, we were working in silence when Aunty Sadiya, my mom's younger came in with the small chops which she was in charge of

As time went by our relatives kept coming in

Mama sent me away to get dressed because the groom's relatives could come in anytime soon

I got changed into an embellished purple and white atampa and I tied the head tie in a ture ka ga tsiya style before I picked up a matching veil from my drawer

I could hear hollering and chatter from downstairs so I could tell that that the groom's relatives are here

I was about to go downstairs when my phone which was on my bed rang, I picked it up to see ya Nadia, I rolled my eyes with a chuckle before picking it up

"Are they here?" I heard her say immediately I swiped to answer

"Oh ni Aishatu, I've never seen a bride data keh da shishigi irin Keh ba" I teased (I've never seen a bride that has so much intervention like you)

"Zan chi qaniyan ki! What do you mean shishigi, ba kaya na baneh" she spat from the other side (what do you mean intervention? Is it not my things?)

I burst out laughing "sannu masu kaya, mu da bama da lefe Allah ya bamu haquri, yes yes they're here already, if only you'll let me go I will be able to see what's happening and give you a detailed gist like you wanted"(sorry owner of things, we that we don't have May God pity us)

"Oya go go! Did I stop you??"

"Yes!, You called-" she cut off the call before I completed my sentence

I rolled my eyes at her before leaving my phone in my room and going downstairs

When I reached downstairs everyone was already settled in the living room and the boxes were already brought in

I greeted the guests and I helped my cousins, Atika and Zee, Aunty Sadiya's daughters, bring out the drinks and the snacks

The living room was full, and everyone settled down for the opening of the lefe

Lefe is basically the gift the groom/ groom's family gives the bride when it is settled they are to be married, it usually comes in different suitcases filled with clothes, shoes, bags, cosmetics, undergarments..basically just giving the bride a new closet

Two girls from the groom's family stood up and they started to lay down the suitcases, and from then on bringing out the things in the bag

I used Zee's phone to take a video for Ya Nadia

A series of "Ma Sha Allah"  and budda kept going on through the entire process

About 45 minutes later the process was over

I went upstairs as the groom's family were starting to depart, making sure I sent the video from Zee's phone to mine

As expected my phone was already ringing

I chuckled as I answered Ya Nadia's call "shishigi!"

She cussed me out and I laughed before sending her the video

I woke up quite early the next morning

We had a very late night last night because my cousins stayed over and the house was very lively

After Fajr I surprisingly didn't go back to sleep so I just lazily laid on my bed until 8:30

I took my shower and I wore an Igbo wrapper (atampa) that was Mustard and blue

I decided to ditch a head tie today and I placed a matching veil instead on my head

Today was finally the day I escort Zainab to go get her lace

I arrived in a few minutes because the distance between our houses isn't much

She told me to come in but I said I would when we come back

She came out and we drove to the mall where the shop was located

Zainab insisted we eat something before we go into the shop and I didn't argue because I was hungry as well

We went into a cafe at the right side of the mall's entrance

I had coffee and a croissant, Zainab has the same too, After a lot of arguing she finally agreed for me to pay for it

We took about 40 minutes to choose the lace because Zainab was so damn indecisive!

With the help of I and two other ladies who worked at the shop we convinced her to get the blue lace with the gold sequence

She paid for it and we finally left the shop

I did nothing but I was so exhausted, yesterday's lack of sleep was finally getting to me and I wanted nothing but to get home

We were right at the mall's exit when I heard a familiar voice

"Iman?"

I turned around and I saw a face I haven't seen for a few days

"Amir"
