Chapter 90: The Revelation

Start from the beginning

"I can hear the sound of violins.. long before.. it begins.."

"Who have you held a grudge against?" asked the 18-year old male in a gray blazer.

"Dale," I automatically answered. "He broke my heart, so why shouldn't I be bitter?"

"Make me thrill as only you know how..."

"But you moved on, right?"

I nodded my head, staring at Lucas, his brown eyes perturbed while we danced.

"Sway me smooth.. sway me now.. give me more..."

"Lucas, why are you asking me all these questions?"

He shook his head. "Why did you fall in love with Dale?"

"Sway me.. make me.. thrill me.. hold me.."

I turned around, Lucas' arms around mine as I pressed my back against his chest. He was hugging me from behind while I swayed my hips with slow passion I never knew I had. It felt so warm, like home, to be in his touch. I wanted to savor the moment, but something was amiss.

"Bend me.. ease me.. you have a way with me!"

A wary sigh blew out of my pink lips. "He was the wrong guy who said all the right things."

Lucas gave a nod of his head and said nothing, unfailingly dancing a few feet away from me.

"Hey, yeah.. sway me.." the song went on. The rhythm was fading quickly, so I knew the end of the dance was near.

"But what if," said Lucas while he twirled me around. "You met the right guy who will always say all the right things?"

His words caught me off-guard. I was too stunned to speak. Luckily, I had jumped into his arms by then, with him catching me as the music died away, followed by the loud applause.

I cleared my throat. My black-haired partner was still carrying me bridal style, my cheeks felt hot.

"Lucas, you can put me down now," I told him, sneaking glances at the audience. All eyes were on us, and it was making me uncomfortable.

He began to walk in the direction of the EXIT door with me in his arms. "Lucas!" I shouted.

"Sophia, I need to tell you something," he said, the urgency evident in his voice.

"Can't we talk in private? Everyone is staring at us!" I exclaimed.

"No. It has to be now."

"B-but--" Without thinking, I looked over my shoulder to see my tall blonde sister, Stacy, watching us from across the dance hall, her sky blue eyes were stone cold, her ruby lips set in a tight seam.

Shit.

I began to wiggle and wriggle from his hold. "Lucas, please!"

Hearing the desperation in my tone, Lucas carefully put me down. "I'm s-sorry."

"Just don't do that again," I replied sternly, smoothing down the skirt of my yellow hi-low dress.

"I'm sorry, Sophia."

That second time sounded different. I looked at the 18-year old male. "I already accepted your--"

"No." Lucas met my gaze. "I'm apologizing for something else I did."

My heart started hammering fast inside my rib-cage. Whatever he was about to tell me, I sensed I wasn't going to like it one bit.

I fingered the silver half-heart pendant on my collarbone as I eyed my partner. "What is it?"
