Dallas' POV
○●○●○

I climbed back into the car with Johnny in the passenger's seat and huffed as I started the engine. "She seems really cool, Dal." Johnny commented

"She held a heater to my head and cussed me out ealier." I spat

Johnny seemed confused, "What?"

"She's needy. She threatened me against my life for me to be her 'chauffeur'." I scoffed

"Why would she do that?" Johnny asked. I didn't respond because I didn't want to look stupid and I couldn't lie to Johnny. He caught on to me, "Someone wouldn't do that without reason. If she was needy then she wouldn't have attacked that Soc for Ponyboy."

"Okay I tried to rob her and before I could get away she stopped me and held me against my will to help her around until she can get settled." I admitted, "But her attacking the Soc was because she's got anger issues."

"You've known her for less than 24 hours how do you know she has anger issues?" Johnny sassed me

"She randomly charged a Soc with a blade!" I pointed out

"She was protecting Ponyboy! She doesn't even know the kid but pulled a switch to protect him. And how it sounds it seems like the least you could do is help her settle into Tulsa." Johnny said

"What makes you say that?" I asked defensively

"You tried to rob her, Dal. You tried to take away the only thing she has in a new town and before you even get to know her you try and rob her. I usually don't feel this way towards other people, but just by meeting her right now I think you should give her a chance. I have a good feeling about Ivy."

"Well, I don't." I scoffed

"Then why did you keep her around?" Johnny smirked, knowing there was no doubt he was winning this debate

"It was her choice." I replied

"Dally, we both know you could have easily left her behind a long time ago. There was something in you that kept her around." Johnny said smuggly, "I guess I'm not the only one who has a good feeling about her."

I looked over at Johnny and I could tell by the look on his face he was proud of himself. I was cornered and he knew it, I hate being cornered. Johnny was one of the only people who could back me into a corner and get away with it. I can't get mad at Johnny, no one could get mad at Johnny.

I didn't respond because once again I was in denial that my debate lost. "Keep her around, you know you want to." Johnny concluded

We drove around town to get some food and smokes, harass children, and just walk around town. I would have invited the others too, but I was really only in the mood to hang with Johnny. Ivy got me in a bad mood from the get go.

Not much was going on; no drive in movie, no races, no parties that interested me. Just the same old Tulsa like it is everyday, maybe tomorrow there'll be something to do so I can get all this stress off my chest. I didn't like it when I was in a bad funk, I usually have to get in a fight to rid of it all. Maybe I'll do that later with Tim or Curly or something if anyone's up for it, a fight sounds just as good as a cigarette right now.

Me and Johnny went to the lot after we got bored of just walking around town and had a few smokes as the sun went down. Johnny's parents don't care if he comes home or not, sometimes he perfers not to go home at all to avoid getting beat by his folks. I hate how he's treated like that, of anyone to receive that type of torture from a parent it was not Johnny.

"Don't you got to pick up Ivy soon?" Johnny asked

Just as I got her out of my head Johnny had to bring her up again. The sound of her name made me feel already frustrated and exhausted. Not even 24 hours and I've had enough of that girl. "She can fend for herself."

"Dal." Johnny said with his puppy eyes

"What? She sure likes to flaunt that blade, she can do fine by herself." I said as I took a long drag of my cigarette

"Why don't you want her around?" Johnny asked

"She frustrates me." I answered

"Because she can back you into a corner effortlessly?" Johnny teased

"No she can't." I defended

"Dally, if you dislike someone you would leave them within seconds if they were ever with you in the first place. Somehow, something in you made a deal with her to stick around. That wasn't just on her part, you made the deal when you didn't trick her into something she can't get out of." Johnny said

Johnny knows me better than myself sometimes. I really could have left Ivy to her lonesome if I tried, I wouldn't even had to try that hard. "But now I'm backing out of the deal like I should have a while ago, I ain't picking her up."

"Oh come on Dal, don't be like that." Johnny said

"Why not? And why are you in such favor she sticks around? She was never in our lives in the first place, what difference will it make if she isn't in our lives still?" I defended

"She's got good morals, I can tell. When you tried to jip her she still kept you around, because she sees the good in you Dal. She knows you're not just a no good hood. Not only that, but she attacked someone for a person she didn't even know, if a person can do that without thinking twice you know they've got a heart of gold. If she wants to keep you around then I think you should do the same with her." Johnny answered

Taking in people's words wasn't something I did often, but this time I actually listened to Johnny. I remember what Ivy told me, "I look at people differently than others do." She looked at me differently than anyone ever has who isn't a part of the gang. I was so shocked when she not only spared my life but decided to stick around me after I made a run with her jacket, so shocked that I kept her around. Maybe Johnny had a point, maybe she was worth keeping around.

"You should pick her up." Johnny said after I thought to myself for a bit

"I'll give her a chance..." I mumbled, hating myself for having a heart

Johnny smiled and decided to change the subject before I changed my mind, "I think I'm going to spend the night in the lot."

"I'm probably going to find a fight to partake in or something." I added as I stomped out my cig

"See you tomorrow?" Johnny asked

"Most likely." I nodded

"See you later, Dal." Johnny said as he began walking in the direction of the lot

"Bye Johnnycake."
