There once was a boy,
Who always spread joy.
He lived a simple life,
Never overcome with any sort of strife.
But little did his neighbors know,
A desire for adventure began to grow.
He was faced with a question
Should he abandon all he'd ever known just to reach a nonexistent destination?
Or should he leave it all behind,
Never allowing his dreams to make him blind.
He realizes he cannot live two different lives
Two choices that both potentially begin his off-the-deep-end dives.
But should he condemn his twin to death
By taking his final breath,
He decides to remain in silence
To keep his twin from suffering the violence.
For to end ones life
Would cause never ending strife.
How sickly sweet,
To have the world at your feet.
To have hope is a dangerous dance
Wrapped in blissful ignorance.
Being a king of your own land
Then having everything snap like a band.
For a short moment, he holds a key
Happiness has him shouting with glee.
But the walls began crumbling down upon the kingdom held together by love
All the while clouds full of hate rained from above.
Snapped out of his dream
He begins to scheme
He loses connection with reality
His daydreams skyrocketing as he sails a rough sea,
Climbing to the top of Mount Everest
Armed with a sword and shield with a printed crest.
Flying as a bird throughout the sky,
No idea these dreams will lead him to die.
He wishes for a different world to be apart of
If only others shared his burning love.
To switch places with his twin
Without either of them losing their grin.
Being born in the wrong time, the wrong place
He wished to be abandoned by such an awful race.
His twin must have been happy however,
Seeing as his world couldn't get better.
He couldn't do that to his twin.
After all, love will always win.
But could he really live a lie?
When all he deserved was to die.
Just when the light in his eye was lost,
Hope resurfaced, this time with a cost.
He could pray and wish to be his twin
Or daydream himself into what had been
His only escape
Before his dread could take shape
He needed to act quick
Before hate would crash through his last sliver of hope like a batch of tumbling bricks.
His past decisions were catching up to him
Those of which, he decided on a whim.
He had only one option to choose
This was an inner battle he didn't want to lose.
Call it destiny or fate
But his choice was wrong and late.
He now had to surrender his twin
Along with the made up world he resided within.
All because of one mistake,
He had to destroy everything he worked so hard to make.
With his hope all gone,
He realized all along he'd been a simple pawn.
He wasn't special, he wasn't unique.
He was virtually dirt, so to speak.
Sadly now, my friend,
The life of this dreamer comes to an end.
Head full of fantasies of living an adventurous life,
He completely ignored how he caused others strife.
His life serves as a warning to all
Who are willing to sacrifice others to prevent their own fall
That is the damage dreaming can do,
Dreaming is fine, just don't let it define you.
