As the weeks go on my science partner, Edward, begins to get less hostile towards me. Today we actually held a semi-pleasant conversation.

"Dang this science work is way too easy." I say as Edward and I finish our worksheet halfway through the period.

"Yeah." He smiles.

"Wow. I didn't know your face was capable of doing anything other than scowling." I smirk.

"It's hard not to smile when I'm around you."

"It sure didn't seem hard on my first day of school. You told me I smelled remember?"

"And you still do smell. I'm just getting used to it."

My nostrils flare in frustration. "I do not smell!" I whisper shout.

"Yes you do Bella. Everyone has a smell."

"Yes but your implying that I smell bad!"

"That's because you do."

I'm about to retort again but the bell rings. "This conversation isn't over." I mumble.

As I was exiting the lunch line Jessica pulled me aside. "Bella...is it true?"

"Is what true?" I ask cautiously.

"You and Edward. A little birdy told me you guys were laughing it up during science today." Jessica winks at me.

"How did you know that? Wait-never mind. No I'm not into him."

"Seems like he's into you." Jessica nods her head toward the Cullen table. None of the other pale teens paid me any attention. None but one.

I glanced at Edward. Our eyes briefly meeting. I look away-my face red with embarrassment.

"He's not into me."

"But-,"

"Just drop it!" I shout. The cafeteria growing eerily silent.

"Okay! Jeesh!"

That night I toss and turn in my bed. Every time I close my eyes dreadful thoughts fill my mind. I can't take this anymore.

I open my eyes and sit up in bed, drenched in my own sweat. My eyes shift to the window, a shadowy figure tries to escape but I've already seen him.

"Edward?" I mumble. My mind is just playing tricks on me.

Suddenly a very pale face appears in my window. "Hey Bella."
