Broken Beauty

They say beauty,

I see grief.

In her eyes,

as she walks,

before she bows.

They say elegant,

I see surrender,

in her posture,

as she whispers her name,

before the dance.

She has given up on hope,

she has lost faith,

that she will once again know home.

She is lost and frightened,

but she will not let them see it.

She is broken,

but the life within her,

is yet to be awoken.
