The sky pushed in on us with orange clouds. The sunlight shone through the dust and made the heavy air seem thicker. A black sun chased the world as my legs carried me nowhere. Pain had faded to nothing as I dashed through the viscous layout of this neverending world of torment and suffering. His hand gripped mine tighter than the rope around my neck. I pulled him through the land as he stared down the ominous entity.

"Run, bunny, run!" he screamed each time the entity appeared closer to us.

With each word my legs burned for a split second. Every step was more and more laborious. The earth sucked us up as the sky abided with suffocating fumes and particles.

Screams fell from his mouth as the entity touched his arm and chest. Burnt flesh invaded my nostrils, pushing past the heavy air with great ease. Hot air infiltrated my lungs and squeezed the air from every cell in my body. I fell as a hard lump of coal in sand. Excruciating pain was now evident in my body again as the earth so carefully consumed me. His hand never left mine and the entity never touched my skin. The dark sun masked the world in perpetual doom and let life to this entity reign.

With his remaining energy he stared down the figure and screamed his pain away for me. A loud boom rang through the world.

The heat disappeared as my eyes opened to his closed. I gripped his hand and gave it a gentle kiss of love and gratitude. He smiled crookedly and he squeezed my hand painfully tight.

"Each day I will protect you from yourself, from it, from them," he had whispered years prior to now. He still lives to those words today. My favorite father.
