Happiness - Reality

"What is happiness?"

Happiness... is a rose
A beautiful flower with thorns

Like how the sun and moon
Balance each other
So do pain and pleasure

Happiness... is something double-edged
A sword of consequence

Like how the
Wheel of fate spins
So is the fickleness of joy

The bliss of one
Might be at the expense of many
The bliss of many
Might be the grief of one

Happiness is binary.

Happiness... is a treasure
Something invaluable

Like how the transience of footsteps
Is a constant over the dunes
So is the inevitability of euphoria's end

Happiness... is an hourglass
Ever-changing and impermanent

However, like how the caterpillar
Metamorphoses into a butterfly
So do the things in life

The happiest of moments,
The memories we treasure the most
Eventually fade into obscurity
... and so does sadness

Happiness is dynamic.

Happiness... is a peak
A height to climb

Like how a mountain
Is riddled with treacherous paths
So is the road to genuine happiness

Happiness... is both
A fall and a rise

Like how the scales of justice
Reach equilibrium when one gives way
True happiness requires sacrifice

The reality of happiness
Is cruel and permanent
Happiness in reality
Is the victor's proof of testament

Happiness is indeed... a complex mystery.

Here is where I shall end and where you shall start. Happiness? What is it to you? I pause for answer...
