Chapter 6 - Asking Questions

Start from the beginning

"Take your time, I'll be in the kitchen when you're done" I said over my shoulder and went to make some pancakes, bacon and egg.

I made the breakfast ready and when Kate decided to come it was all done. I looked up to see her in my sweatshirt and the pants I borrowed her yesterday. She looked wonderful in it and I really hoped her cherry flavored scent would print into them so I could still smell her when she would return home. Did she really need to go home? Couldn't she stay here with me forever? I thought about it.

Her giggle made me return to the now and I looked at her and wondered why she had giggled.

"What's that stare for?" she asked blushing.

I made her blush all the time! It was really fun to see the effect I had on her. Maybe, just maybe, I could quit my job and spend the rest of my life with her. Right after the new mission.

"Nothing" I answered her and placed the breakfast on the bench.

She sat down in the barstool she had sat in the morning before. This time I didn't stay on this side of the bench but sat down right next to her. We started eating and I couldn't help but be curious about what Lanie had said the day before. But I figured I shouldn't start on such a sensitive subject since it had made her cry the day before.

"So, what's your hobbies? You seem to be quite an interesting person" I started and she looked at me with wide eyes.

"Uhm" she said and it looked like she was thinking about what she would say.

"Sorry, you don't have to tell me, I was just curious" I said quickly and looked down at my food and took a bite of the pancakes.

"No! It's okay, I just don't have so many hobbies... uhm... I like to go out every now and then with my friends but mostly I'm working all the time" she said and then her eyes told me that she had said too much.

Which confused me since she hadn't told me anything out of ordinary.

"How come I haven't seen you before?" I asked, trying to get her out of that uncomfortable bubble she seemed to be in.

She smiled and I felt like I had succeeded.

"I don't usually go out on a Thursday night plus I'm not always in this town, and I'm not the one deciding which clubs we go to, usually that's Jenny or La...n...ie" her voice died out and I could see the sadness in her eyes.

"Maybe you should call her" I suggested.

"And say what? That I'm sorry for how I reacted to what she was saying? No, I don't think so" she said harsh but I could hear she tried not to since she was talking to me and not Lanie.

Whatever Lanie had meant by 'quit her job or she would end up like her mother' it had really torn Kate apart. It was a really sensitive subject, I could tell that from the way Kate's eyes looked. I didn't want to change the subject completely but I could see Kate was done talking about Lanie.

"What is it that you do?" I asked and Kate looked at me with a worried face.

It looked like she had some big secret she wasn't ready to give up yet.

"Enough about me" she said but it almost sounded like a plea. "What about you?"

"What do you wanna know?" I asked.

"Weell... anything I should know about you?" she asked with a smirk.

So many things, you have no idea how much I would love to tell you.

But instead of saying that I shrugged.

"I do have a daughter but she mostly lives with my mother since I have a job to attend to and she knows how much it means to me so she doesn't mind. Plus I'm there for her much more than her mother, who is my ex-wife" I shared and Kate looked at me with shock.

"You have a daughter?" she asked surprised.

"Yeah, uhm.. sorry I didn't tell you before. I usually don't tell people who I just met, since I have trust issues" I said with honesty.

It looked like she immediately understood what I meant and she nodded. I knew she could never understand my trusting issues since I never knew who was with me or who was against me in my job. And I would never forgive myself if my own daughter, or mother for that matter, got hurt because of me and what I do.

"So, what's her name?" Kate asked with a small smile.

"Alexis" I said and couldn't help but smile at the thought of my daughter.

"What a beautiful name" she said, more to herself than to me.

She got lost in thought and I couldn't help but watch her while she was thinking of something. She looked so cute when she got that little wrinkle while thinking. I had used that in one of my books but I had actually never seen it.

"Maybe I should go" she suddenly said and I got afraid.

Afraid she was going to walk out of my door and never come back.

"Why don't you stay?" I asked and I could hear the desperation in my voice myself.

I slapped my face in my mind. How could I be so stupid and desperate when I still didn't really know this woman? But what if she was my soulmate?

"Sorry, I really need to go" she said and she had a sad face as well.

She jumped up from the barstool and so did I. I took her hand and started to play with it. Eventually I looked into her eyes and was hypnotized by her beauty. How could a woman this beautiful be single??

"Promise me you will come back" I more stated than asked.

She smiled up at me and stood on her tiptoes to let her lips touch mine. I immediately deepened the kiss and put my hands on her back. I pushed her body against mine, it felt so right. That was a feeling I had never had with anyone before, not Meredith, Alexis' mother, and not any other girlfriend I'd ever had. Before I knew it I had pushed Kate to the wall and was now holding my body as close to hers as I could. She pulled away to catch her breath so I kissed the way down to the side of her neck instead.

"Rick, I really need to get going" she panted and I kissed her one last time on her lips.

I let her go and stared into her eyes again.

"I promise, I will come back" she said and tiptoed to peck my lips.

She was on her way to my bedroom but I stopped her.

"Keep the clothes, and come back to return them later" when she looked confusedly at me I explained with a nervous chuckle "in that case I know you're coming back".

She giggled and came close to me again. I leant down and kissed her before she said good bye and went out the door.

"Good bye" I whispered as I watched the door close.

I shook my head and walked over to my phone. There was a reminder of the new mission I had. I clicked up the reminder and saw the name of the person I was positioned to get rid off, Katherine Beckett. Like with all my other cases I went to my computer and searched the name.

Nothing. Nothing came up. Not even a Facebook page or a twitter. What kind of person stays off the social media? Well, someone who doesn't want to be seen does that, and apparently this Katherine-person was one of those.

I went into the police data base but didn't find anything there either. Which was kind of weird since the most of my assignments used to be in there.
