out of loneliness
and maybe a little despair,
some hopelessness,
a helplessness for love,
romance books, movies,
any fictional love at all,
came to my rescue.

these beautiful masterpieces
have taught me a few things.

they have taught me
that if you fall in love,
the feeling is magical.
it is indescribable.
it's also
not so easy.

they have also taught me
that you,
you don't know
what love is, nor how
it happens exactly.

it isn't some spark.
it isn't a kiss.
yet, i cannot tell you
what it is.
all i know is that,
whatever you were feeling,
that wasn't it.

love cannot last forever.
maybe it is short-lived.
but it does not happen
so very quickly.

it does not happen
over days.
or over a week.

a love that is true
takes time,
takes effort,
if you wish it to be more than just
a chemical reaction.

we have all the time
in the world
to make things right.
there is no need to rush.
there is no need for
empty promises
and sweet nothings.

sometimes words
are not necessary.
so you don't have to say them
especially when i know
that you don't mean it.

sometimes nothing
has to be said.
because the silence
says it all.

you don't know what love is,
but maybe
you will learn.
