Step One
I walked outside, the party already in full swing. Today was my 18th birthday and my parents and older brother demanded that I had to have a party. Of course since I didn't have many friends, most of the party consisted of people from my pack. Not like they had much of a choice since my dad was Alpha and I was his precious daughter. People hated me because of that, but I've learned to ignore them. I was a shy person that daydreamed a lot so it wasn't that hard to zone out the harsh comments. Don't get me wrong, they hurt, but you get used to them after 18 years of hearing the same things over and over again. They're just jealous over something I can't control so it's not like it's my fault.
"Ally, time for cake!" A voice called. I looked over to see my brother, Lucas, standing next to my cake with a lighter in his hand. This was the part I always dreaded, standing awkwardly while a ton of random people sang happy birthday to you. I hated it with a burning passion, but sadly it's a birthday tradition for everyone around the world, including my family. So that's why I walked over to my brother and everyone quickly surrounded us, eager for cake. I looked around at the familiar faces but saw none of my friends. Okay, I lied earlier, I have no friends. I only hung out with Lucas and occasionally his friends.
"Okay guys! Happy birthday..." My brother started singing and everyone joined in. I held my head down and watched my brother light my candles instead of looking at the singing pack members. It wasn't even shocking when I heard a few of the guys mess up on my name, and they weren't joking.
"Make a wish!" My mom cheered once the song was over. I glanced over at her to see her and my dad smiling at me, a camera positioned in my mom's hands. I sent them a small smile before turning back to my cake. 'I wish to finally find my mate' I thought before blowing out the candles. There were a few cheers, but mostly people pushing to get cake first. Thankfully I was handed a big piece first since I was the birthday girl and I quickly headed away from the crowd. I sat at the edge of the porch and stared into the woods. I was never a strong wolf so my dad never allowed me to go into the woods alone without my brother at my side. I'm a decent fighter, but it wasn't enough to keep me from being killed in a fight. Especially a fight against the rogues that seem to be attacking every pack around here. It was only a matter of time before they attacked us and kill half of our pack. We were on edge so it was kind of good for everyone to have this party to relax a little. Border patrols have increased, our training has increased, now we even have an underground shelter for elders and children to go if the rogues do attack. These rogues were vicious and have no mercy, not even to children. They even are thought to have an Alpha, but those were just rumors. They roam in a pack, not having a territory to go to, invading pack lands and killing innocent people. It was almost like a child horror story to make you stay out of the woods, but this story was deadly true. It made even my dad on complete edge, and he was scared of nothing. Maybe he was scared of my mom, but that was beside the point. We were a strong pack, one of the strongest in the country, so he was never worried if wolves decided to attack us. It was a first to see him extremely anxious and running around to make sure everything was in order incase these rogues did attack.
"Hey Ally." Someone pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked next to me to see Tobin now sitting next to me, a present in his hand. Tobin was Lucas's best friend so he was a friend of mine also. We had grown up together and I had a small crush on him my whole life until I found out he wasn't my mate. He had yet to find his mate too, but there was no point on having a crush while I knew my mate was somewhere out there.
