There are times when I understand my dog
When together we sit outside, yearning, by the stars
Because we're both stuck in the same sad fog
I see him sometimes peeking out through smog
His tail wagging mournfully for somewhere quite far
There are times when I understand my dog
In a play, we'd have the same dialogue
Proclaiming proudly, I see the storm clouds here that are
Because we're both stuck in the same sad fog
Days sometimes are a tenebrific bog
Full of incessant searching for a home without scars
There are times when I understand my dog
When doors are slammed shut and tears are unclogged
Together we conclude we're ugly bottles of tar
Because we're both stuck in the same sad fog
We then observe each other, dim from slog
Of spending much energy missing distant saviors
There are times when I understand my dog
Because we're both stuck in the same sad fog
