"You seem shaken up. What's going on?" Tyler and I are in his living room waiting for Jenna to return home from hearing the news. She was away visiting Maddy Brett and helping her take care of her new baby, Mia. Once she heard the news about Josh, she told Tyler she would head straight home.
"I've found out Josh is missing and they found blood at the crime scene. How would you feel?" I sarcastically roll my eyes.
"Like I do right now, but for you there's something more than that," Tyler places a finger on his chin as he ponders. "It's almost as if there's something you know that I don't."
"How do yo-"
"I have my ways." Tyler stuffs a pillow in his face and quickly removes it out of boredom. "You gonna spill? If it's important you better. Josh is my best friend and I'm trying to maintain my composure here."
I sigh, reminding myself that Josh means way more to Tyler that I could possibly ever comprehend.
"I received a message from Josh..."
"WHAT!?" Tyler shoots up. "What does it say!? Let me see!" He scrambles over to my wheelchair and starts grabbing at my purse. I pull it away and take out my phone, entering the password and pulling out the Fairly Local text.
"I thought you guys didn't use this god forsaken app anymore..." Tyler murmurs, examining the text.
"That's what I thought too, honestly." I shrug. "Why would Josh send me this though? It's not like him."
Tyler bites his lower lip as my eyes shift from him and the floor. He seems to be thinking hard. Suddenly, his eyes get wide as he grabs the phone and presses his fingers against the keyboard.
"What are you doing?" I ask, my head tilted.
"Trying to get more info from this person. It's not Josh."
"What?"
"Josh's phone was found in his house when the police came," Tyler lifts his head and his brown, worried eyes lock with mine. "He used an old iPhone to call the cops. His phone was in the kitchen, untouched."
"So you're saying someone else is texting... couldn't Josh have just logged in from a different device?"
Tyler looks at me like I'm stupid. "This is Josh we are talking about here. One: why would the person who took him give him access to electronic devices." His eyes roll. "And two: Josh fucking cares about you to the point you're basically all he talks about. Why would he say something like this? Come on Y/N, you're better than this."
I swallow the lump that formed in my throat as my face goes red. Tyler continues to type.
"If my suspicions are correct...," Tyler stays focused on the screen intently. I see him do one final tap before he flips the phone around to my view, showing me the response he sent.
"I believe this is either Mark or his new little friend."
