Josh

I grit my teeth in utter pain as I grab a pillow and press it against my wounds.

It had to have been the lightbulb. Emotional's text become clear in my mind again.

Three lights are lit, but the fourth one's out.

I realize quickly that I can't just stay still. That door slammed, so they most likely have the intention to keep me trapped here. Unfortunately, I left my cell phone on the kitchen table. What a stupid mistake that was considering I thought I may be in danger.

I swallow my pain as I start to stand.

My first instinct is, of course, to clutch tightly to my knife and run to the door, but it won't budge. The knob has been jammed and no matter how hard I press against the piece of wood, it stays in tact. The person in my house must have barricaded the exit. With little hesitation I run to the only window in my room and lift upward, but it won't open. If necessary I can find something heavy and break the glass to exit, but I'm afraid the noise will only make them come in the room and attempt to stop me.

Slowly and cautiously, I walk to my closet, remembering I placed my old cellphone in a shoebox on the top shelf.

I open the door and brace myself for some form of an attack, but let out a relieved sigh when nothing happens. I tug the chain for the light, and lucky this one turns on. A few seconds later, my old iPhone 5 is being held in my palms. I cautiously walk to my bedside table and put the device on the charger. Even though I have no plan, I remember reading something about phones still being able to dial emergency numbers.

Once my fingers finish fumbling around, going from the power button to the home screen, I feel myself start to panic.

I can hear noises outside the door...

And I can't remember this phone's password.

My brain rattles as my thumbs try every possible combination that I've had in the past.

Suddenly, I find my way out from my momentary stupidity. My fear caused me to overlook the word in the lower left hand corner.

Emergency.

I slide the button, and after a few more simple clicks, I'm connected to the line. By now my breathing has quickened to alarming rates, but at least I should be safe for now. I still have my knife, and now I've made contact with the authorities.

"Hello 911 what's your emergency?"

I feel the corners of my mouth being tugged.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

My eyes start to sag as I feel myself falling deeper and deeper into sleep. My knife falls from my arm with a limp motion.

I hear a simple, bone chilling muffled word come from Emotional as a black glove reaches down from above me and covers my eyes.

"Silence."
