my phone buzzed as i was about go to sleep after a long day of work.
unknown: meet me at the cafe tomorrow at 9.
r: who is this?
unknown: just come to the cafe.
r: i'm not dumb enough to do that, who is this?
unknown: leah gave me your number.
r: cameron?
unknown: correct.
r: block and delete my number.
c: please just meet me tomorrow.
r: i don't want to talk. i've moved on from what happened.
c: you've moved on? when i looked in your eyes i knew you were still stuck in what i did to you.
r: i've accepted your apology, there's nothing else that can happen.
c: there is, please come.
r: fine whatever.
c: thank you
i roll my eyes as i call leah.
"hello!" she chirps from down the line.
"why did you give cameron my number?" i ask.
"i wanted you to get closure."
"i already have closure! he thought he loved me, he was wrong and i'm fine with that now!" i whine.
"are you meeting him tomorrow?" she asks, changing the conversation.
"yes, will you come?" i question.
"babe, that's so awkward. i'm not meeting up with my ex, plus i'm looking after vanessa."she laughs.
"oh yeah, well thanks for giving my number to him!" i sarcastically say.
"no problem honey."
"night leah."
"goodnight." she says before i end it.
this girl is a headache.
next morning
after walking to leahs house to drop vanessa off, i slowly make my way to the cafe to see cameron. it just reminds me when i was dreading to go see leah and in the end it wasn't that bad.
maybe this won't be that bad.
"meduim black coffee please." i say to the waiter as i wait for cameron.
my fingers started tapping in hesitation, i don't want to be here.
after a while he gave me my coffee and i saw cameron walk through the doors. my heart started beating faster as he approached me.
"hey." he awkwardly says.
"hi." i say before taking a sip of my coffee, "what did you want to talk about?"
he sighs, "so much."
"go on then. you have as long as you want to explain yourself this time."
he takes a deep breathe in before placing his hands on the table.
"lets start from the beginning. i was a young, reckless dickhead that was just looking for fun. and i thought you'd be that fun when you first joined. but i realised you were more than the fun i hoped for and i'd never had that before so i didn't know what i was doing and i thought that sticking to my player ways would work, i was so fucking wrong." he looked up at me to see if i was looking at him.
and of course i was, how couldn't i? our eyes locked and before i knew it i was getting lost in them again, i don't care about anything else, i didn't care that there was people around me and i don't care if he hurt me.
"do you want anything to drink sir?" a waiter says, breaking the eye contact.
"no thank you, i'm good."
"so where were you in the story?" i ask him.
"i'll have to admit the time i spent with you will be the best times of my life. and every moment we looked each other in the eyes, kissed, made love or anything like that...i will cherish forever. me not knowing what love was made me walk out on you like that. i'm older now and i realise that i did love you so much and i left you because i didn't know what to do. i could've easily just talked it out and thought about our next step together but i didn't. i panicked and left, i wanted to come back so badly and tell you that i do love you and i want to raise the child together but i knew that you wouldn't let me in. but i knew in my gut that all along you did have that baby, and that did try your hardest and you stayed strong and didn't cave in."
there was a long pause.
"i know this doesn't make up for the amount of pain that i put you in, but i really do need you in my life. if it's that we're enemies, friends or more than that... at least i'll know you as something more. please rosie." he begged.
slowly, a smile plastered across my face after listening to him talk. i could listen to his voice for years and never get tired of it.
"it's been years and i'm more than ready to say i want you back in my life too."
