"What?"

"A mated pair cannot have pups with any other. No one knows why...but it is very rare that either the male or female have a child with another wolf. I've only ever heard of it happening no more than three times."

"So you're telling me, that if I don't mate with Quinton, I may never have kids?"

"Yes." Edward replied gravely.

Nothing was said for a long moment. James left to go patrol and Edward attempted to take Nora in his arms, but she pushed him away.  Getting up, Nora walked, head down, out of the office. It was dark now and barely anyone was about. Nora walked with no idea where she was going. Everything her father told her was spinning around her head. Reaching the outskirts of town, Nora sat on the grass and looked up at the sky. The stars were twinkling. The moon was out, full and white. Nora heard in the distance, the faint sound of wolves howling.

Nora lay down, just gazing. Life had been so easy just a couple of hours ago. Nora had her whole life planned out. She didn't need much from life. Just a roof over her head and family. She would maybe even leave Wicks and venture into the human world. Not being able to transform opened the door to many possibilities. She didn't have to live in fear, cower. But now? All the possibilities that had been there for her were gone. Poof.  Effectively disappeared. The door to her future was forced close, bordered shut. What lay before her currently were two separate roads - to obey or be a fugitive. No route she would chose could lead to a happy future. Nora didn't know what lay ahead, but she knew that no matter what path she chose, her life would never be simple again.

Quinton stormed into his estate, already pulling at his stuffy tie. The servants, who'd been expecting his return later, scurried about, trying to avoid his wrath. His footsteps echoed off the marble floor as he stomped. Quinton headed for his office. Still attempting to remove his tie, he shouted for Mary.

Mary was the primary caretaker of the estate. She'd been Quinton's nanny when he was a child and possibly the only person Quinton felt attached to. She was one of the few humans he kept in his company. Though, she is now more plump and gray than before, she still had the same authority she'd had when he'd been young..

"Quinton, how are you dear?" Mary said, lightly moving his hands out of the way and removing the bothersome tie.

"Just fine." Quinton said sarcastically. "You must have the house prepared by Sunday, Mary."

"Oh. For?" Mary questioned, walking about tidying the already neat office.

"I found a mate." Quinton moved to sit down in the chair behind his large maple-wood desk.

Mary quit patting the drapes and turned towards her master.

"A...a mate?"

"Yes. Just what I need, eh? A woman." Quinton sneered, taking out a bottle of brandy, and pouring himself a glass.

"How'd you come across her?"

"I was on my way to Wicks for business and she was laying in the grass outside. I caught one whiff of her and I knew. Her name's Nora. She's twenty-one. Can you believe it? Basically a child."

"Nora...I like that name, The arrangements will be made for her. Though Charlene will not be very happy, Quinton."

Quinton groaned at the mention of his...friend. Charlene was a lover that Quinton kept around, being that she was incredibly beautiful and good in bed. He was going to have to figure out that situation but it would have to wait until later.

"Charlene will just have to deal with it. I'm growing bored with her anyway." Quinton said rubbing his temples.

"Headache, dear?"

"Yes Mary. Do you have anything to remedy it?"

"Of course Quinton. I'll be right back."

Mary left his study and Quinton thought about today's events. He'd returned with more problems than he'd left with. He already had enough on his plate and now there was a girl, who had too much spunk. "least I'll be getting an heir...that' the only good thing about this situation." Quinton thought.

Quinton Reeves, was paired up with a rough and tumble girl, and she was homely at that. This Nora was plain- mousy looking with brown hair, eyes, and a freckled face. Her body wasn't much either. If Quinton recalled she was short and lanky. Quinton huffed at his misfortune.

The fate were funny.
