In a way, Mitch and Scott's relationship could be compared to parallel lines in a mathematical graph. Always close, the closes two could be, but never quite crossing lines, never joining together.

Except they knew that one day their paths wouldn't just cross, but they would join or one would move away from their line to follow the other one.

It was like walking on two sides of a canal forever, but a bridge never appearing. They saw each other, laughed and talked, they could reach out and intertwine their hands with some difficulty, even, but it never lasted.

They could see the bridge in the distance, knew that it was what was meant to happen, but for now, they were still fine with not crossing the canal yet, with discovering their own sides and the knowledge that one day that bridge would be there.
