Operation Hellborn Vagabond

Start from the beginning

Gunner slipped up behind Zalewski, and pulled out her med-kit. Zalewski, flat on his back bleeding from a shoulder wound gasped out, as Gunner approached. He grabbed her armor, and pulled her close, "If....if.....if I don't make it...will you....will you...will you make sure Bastion is taken care of? He needs to be fed daily, and make sure you read him his bedtime stories. And when he whines early in the morning, it just means he loves you, and..."

Gunner just rolled her eyes. He was hurt, and pretty badly, but he wasn't going to die. And she SURE as heck wasn't going to do anything with that robot of his... Pulling out the squad's can of blood-be-gone, she sprayed it into the wound, not even warning him or letting him know it might 'sting' a little. He cried out in pain, tensing mightily, then relaxed to the floor as the pain eased away. She watched for just a second, before toeing him with her boot. Bastion came over and landed down next to him, screeching loudly in his ear.

Amidst the receding pain, Zalewski was able to look over at his metal companion, the reasoning returning to his brain, "BASTION! You're alive!"

"That cure is about to be a waste if you don't get your butt up and back in action, pronto! Take the far side! Now GO!"

Gunner heard an explosion and looked up. Smoke and shrapnel came pouring out the entrance that Campbell and the Ranger had entered. "Biscuits." She quickly gained her feet and raced over. Holding back coughing through the dust and grime, she took cover behind a concrete pillar. The ADVENT general was pushing off part of a concrete wall that had exploded on him. A pair of ADVENT troops were helping him chirping frantically in their alien language.

Gunner looked around, and not seeing her brother or Campbell, she did the logical thing, she pushed on with the mission objective. Putting the general in her sites, she fired away sending slug after slug into his alien hide. The pair of aliens scattered just as the concrete block was shifted and the general regained his feet, a bit worse for wear.

Zalewski, his shoulder throbbing madly, slowly made his way to his feet. Gunner had rushed into the near entrance, but there was another entrance, and smartly enough, could be used for flanking purposes. Realizing that this would likely be the safest position regardless, Zalewski loped over. Just as he was about to reach a covered position, a figure came bursting out of the room. An ADVENT grunt, trying to get a flanking position ran right into Zalewski. The two stared at each other for just a second before scrambling to aim their weapons. The grunt managed to level his weapon just in time for Bastion to come screeching its high-pierced shriek.

The ADVENT soldier actually dropped his weapon, and Zalewski used the opportunity to carefully line up the shot and take it. If Zalewski were more than three feet away, he would have missed, and badly. As it stood though, he managed to clip the ADVENT grunt in the thigh, the gut, and the shoulder sending it to the ground to die a bloody and painful death.

Bastion whistled happily.

Campbell sat next to the Ranger on an overhang and that was perfect for her. She watched as the Ranger tossed a grenade, bringing down the wall on top of the general, and the resulting rescue party that came in for assistance. She watched in amusement as the grunt ran headfirst into Zalewski who somehow managed to take it out. The alien insect thing decided to climb to the opposing overhang. Campbell looked at the Ranger briefly and pulled out a grenade. There was just the slightest of a smirk as Campbell pulled the pin and threw it.

The alien insect, looking down to spot Zalewski walking into the room, heard the bouncing of the grenade a moment too late. The explosion brought the entire structure down. When the smoke cleared, Zalewski looked up to see a bloodied and angry sectoid in front of him. Bastion wailed in surprise and Zalewski panicked, closing his eyes and pulling the trigger. When he opened them again, the alien lay on the ground, a surprised expression on its face from the several gunshot wounds it'd received.
