I enjoyed the last X-Com game. I can't say I was extremely GOOD at it, but I played a decent amount. I played the easy level and pretty much walked through it with the exception of the whale level where I lost everyone but one and the base invasion where I lost several team members. I know people enjoy the long war mod, but there were simply too many options in long-war for me to be good at it. The only REAL complaints on the new X-COM Enemy Unknown were the complaints that most people gave the game – the maps did get repetitive.
So earlier this year at PAX, we sat down at an X-COM 2 demonstration and the designers walked us through various parts of the game. One of the bigger draws was the random map generation. There were other things they talked about like mods and the like, but it didn't really matter. I would get it (eventually). Well, I finally pulled the trigger on the purchase (thank you Black Friday), and off we go!
Well, actually, not quite yet. One of the draws of X-COM is the ability to customize your soldiers. X2 does this even better, allowing you to create a pool of characters to draw form before you even start the game. This is really, really cool. If you play the game several times, you don't have to recreate the entire group every time. So, my daughter and I spent an evening (or two), creating the pool of people that would show up throughout the game – both good and bad.
So, after playing through the tutorial, it doesn't look like a whole lot has changed. The biggest changes look to be the initial ambush ability and some hacking abilities. With a quick tour of the base, the need for scientists and engineers seems to be there.
Alrighty, enough of the tour, let's get cracking!
So quick heads up some of these missions will be short 1-2 thousand words, and others will be longer 6-7 thousand words depending on the difficulty of the mission. Mission will be posted periodically when there is time to play and write a post (yes this means no true posting schedule) but you can expect for a post to show up during the weekends.
