"Have we made contact yet?"
Corbin looked up in frustration. "Commander, you KNOW these things take time. We just started this a few days ago. It's going to take another few days to gain their confidence and prove that we are who we say we are. We can't just go waltzing in and demand they follow us..."
"Sure we can!"
"Not if you want them to actually follow you...."
The Commander sighed, "Yeah...I know."
"Red, green, red, green, red, green...."
"What's that?"
Corbin looked over at Gill who was watching the consoles. "Oh, don't mind her, she's been doing that for the past hour..."
"Red, green, red, green, red, green...."
The Commander watched her for a minute before realizing what was happening. "Biscuits..." He lifted Gill out of the chair and quickly reviewed the incoming transmission. After re-reading it, he paused and looked up. "Well, it looks to be a council mission, they need to escort an engineer out of Alien controlled area. In return, we get some solid supplies..."
"SHOES!"
"...and the use of their engineer for awhile."
"Do you think they'll have red?"
"Commander, do you really want to interrupt what we have going on here for this?"
"Green! I like green shoes! Green, red, green, red.... All shoes!"
"I don't think we should spend the time or resources doing this Commander..."
Gill glared at the two of them with such intensity that it made Corbin step back. "I. NEEED. SHOES."
The Commander looked at Corbin, then at Gill and back at Corbin again. "Alrighty then...change course. We have an engineer to save..."

Gunner sat in the engineering lab listening to Shen talk. "...and then I started thinking about the grenades. If we were to incorporate the plasma philosophy the aliens use in their cores into our grenades, they'd be much more powerful. It took awhile, but I did it! And let me just say, they are awesome! Be sure to outfit some on your way out. OH! And THEN! THEN I started looking at ammo. I figured that lethality doesn't matter much if you don't hit right? I've got some cool tracer ammo that'll allow you to track your shots as needed. Not that YOU need it, but somebody will.... Pugh maybe?"
"OH! I didn't tell you about the Gauss upgrades to the sniper rifle. Oh wow... You wouldn't BELIEVE what I did to those things..."
Gunner just sat back and basked in the freedom. The Doctor had gone somewhere, and she figured it was time for a little...walk. She decided to head down to Engineering. It was good thing she had. Shen had opened up about a lot of things, but it seemed that there was some personal issues going on over here that had been solved recently. Upgrades had been coming at a solid rate recently.
Shen had complained about lack of supplies, but that hadn't prevented entire missions like the attempted rescue of scientists or the investigation of her father's death. But regardless, the upgrades were coming, and survivability among the team seemed to be a bit more on the uptick. For the first time in awhile, Gunner was happy.
"And then...."
"Ummm..excuse me..." Corbin had stepped into the engineering office interrupting the two, "Gunner, you're wanted on deck. Some Council mission – getting another engineer if not mistaken."
