"Hey Trystan" Max approaches me in the line to get food.

"look if you're going to bitch at me again can it wait 'till tomorrow, the amount of lectures i have had is giving me a headache" I rub my forehead for effect.

"hey hey, no bitching" he holds his hands up in surrender.

I pick up a tray of fries pay and make my way back to my usual table where Phoenix is already sitting.

"so have you told him?" Phoenix looks at Max like an excited toddler.

"told me what?" i respond on Max's behalf.

"okay, so that red headed girl you know , short, a little chubby, long ginger hair"

Phoenix must have mistaken my un-interest as not knowing who she is, as he carries on the descriptions.

"yeah i know who you're talking about"

"well, Jace told me that she was asking Melanie about you in English"

"what are you a fourteen year old girl?" I snigger.

"come on Trystan, there's a girl who's showing interest even when you're moping round like Ben from my AP history (Ben is still mourning the death of Dumbledore) ok, you need to think about this"

"not interested" i shut him down while eating my fries. Now that is what i am interested in.

"oh come on you've not been interested in anything since-"

"since what, since she died" I keep my head down concentrating on my food. "whatever" i conclude before standing back up and storming out of the cafeteria.

All of a sudden I could feel this burning anger deep inside my gut, my fists clenched on their own accord, shaking. why did she have to leave me.

"why?!" I shout using all the air in my lungs. i bang on the lockers, slipping down onto the floor my head buried in my knees.

I needed her to come back, to help me. To tell me that everything was going to be ok.

"are you okay?" I hear a feminine yet unfamiliar voice ask me, their voice sounded close. i lift my head up and wipe the tears from my cheeks. I see the face of a girl I don't know crouched next to me.

"yeah I'm fine"

"you don't look fine to me, do you wanna talk about it?"

"not with you... I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that"

"it's fine. you don't have to talk about it, but can I give you some advice-"

"advice" I laugh "everyone always has a new piece of advice"

"it might not feel like it now, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, and just because the road seems dark and lonely before you reach that light, it doesn't mean you have to be alone on that journey." she pats my knee before standing up and walking down the hall, her red hair swaying as she walks.

I decide to ditch the rest of the day, driving home slowly.

"Trystan you're home early... a lot early its one thirty" my mum states looking at the clock on her phone "why are you not at school?"

"teacher didn't show up" I lie.

"okay, whatever, at least I know you will be home, I have a date tonight so I need you to look after Amelia for me"

"what's new" I mumble

"I'm going out to try find a new outfit before then so i need you to pick her up from school aswell"

"yeah yeah"

i walk upstairs taking them two at a time.

Flopping onto my bed I feel the cold metal Eagle charm of my necklace press against my skin. Taking it off I stare at it, Carmen was so excited to give me this before her fight. I find myself smiling at it, remembering her metaphor that went along with it, telling me to fly free like the Eagle. I chuckle as that metaphor has taken a whole new meaning now. I know it would be best for me to move on but I can't help but feel like it's as if I'm cheating on her.

putting the necklace back around my neck I sit on the edge of my bed. Telling myself tomorrow is a new day and time the old me makes an entrance if I can.

I pull up into the parking lot of my sisters school and I climb out leaning on my car door waiting for Amelia, who soon wanders up clutching her arm.

"hey what's up pumpkin?" i kneel down noticing the track of tears on her cheeks.

"nothing" she says bluntly hiding her arm away from me

"come on let me see your arm"

she holds it out in front of me,  she has a graze.

"how'd that happen?" i ask in a soothing voice.

"Nina pushed me over"

"where is that son of a b- I mean, who's Nina" i spat the brats name.

"a girl in my class"

"why'd she push you?"

"because, she thinks I'm weird for wanting to join the boxing club-but I'm not weird I'm cool, that's what Carmen always told me, tough girls are cool" Amelia sighed at the end of her sentence, I could feel my eyes begin to brim with tears but I blink them away.

"Yeah Carmen is right, she always was"

"I miss her, when can we go see her?"

"Tomorrow Pumpkin, we can go see her tomorrow"
