Chapter 17

AIRAB

Miss Zee is observing the Book baba was reading before we came. Baba or anyone from my family never disliked her presence here for which I am thankful. Elza's happiness lies in her carefree younger sister who alike a butterfly flies from here to there.

"Prince Bhai I am going to Aapi. I promise I would not make a noise." After a few minutes, her concern for her sister rises and at my nod she rushes out.

I adore her very much. Elza has done best in her brought up.

She is in a sensitive age where lusty animals in name of adoring her can touch her, or take advantage of her innocence. But Zee knows how to save herself and from whom. I am sure one day when there will be our daughter, Elza will be a perfect mother.

"You know, your rejections had started to disenchant me, stinging me about your upbringing. But seeing the woman of your choice has erased every bit of that sting."

I literally blush. What would you want more if your father is this blithe with your step, with your choice?

"Our hearts swell with elation when we see you both together."

Yes, I was being brat to my parents when I have had enough of fake statuses, simple, modern and also some nice proposals. No girl could crave herself into my thoughts. With no one, I felt to share my bed.

But Elza... She had pinned herself onto my heart without mere intention.

"I was getting bored. So thought to ping you both." Being alone is hard. On top, Baba is missing mama awfully. I hope their love remains unwracked and forever.

I kiss his hands. These hands have loved me, carried me, played with me, cleaned me, taught me and yeah a few times also slapped me. I softly chuckle at the memory.

"What are you laughing at?" He asks out of curiosity.

"The times you have slapped me."

He chuckles, too.

"Don't forget those have shaped you as a man you are today."

First time when I was slapped, it was for disrespecting mama by showing her fiercer eyes. It was exceptionally hard that my cheek remained swollen for over a week. That is what a husband should do. He was responsible for my mama's happiness and dignity. That day and today, my soul shivers if I think of belittling my mother.

Elza's call come making me intrigue of her health. However, I attend it. Next, all my ears listen is the worried Zee for her Aapi.

"You hurry, go." Baba anxiously murmurs knowing about Elza's sickness.

I haste to my room, taking three stairs in repetition. When I reach the bed, Elza was laying lifelessly in Zee's lap whose tears and fears know no bound. She was again and again calling out for her Aapi.

I touch her. O Allah! Her skin is burning with fever and lips are also very dry. Holding her in my embrace, I make her drink a few sips of water.

"My love, just be patient. I am calling doctor. I am so sorry I went." She clutches my arm with her feeble warm hands while I make a call to doctor.

Asking the doctor to come, I check her fever with the thermometer, which tells 103 in Celsius. Abruptly, I bring a bowl of water and starts the traditional cold water treatment.
