Imagine:

I check my phone again for a message but nothing appears.

"Stop looking at your phone Y/n," my mum says.

I mumble an apology but I can't help it. It's already 7:30pm and Shawn still hasn't called like he said he would from tour... especially since it's my birthday. I sigh and toss my phone in the corner of the sofa and grab some more cake to eat. I sit beside Aaliyah on a beanbag and we share the cake I picked up.

She gives me a quick side hug and smiles. "I'm sure Shawn's just busy, he still hasn't called me yet either."

Strange, because I swear she was on the phone to him this morning. I give her a questioning look but she just smiles and ignores it. I hear my phone vibrate against the sofa and I leap up grab my phone. I walk into the hallway where it's quiet and press the green button as his name appears for Facetime and my face is already beaming at the thought of hearing his voice again.

"Shawn!" I yell.

"Hey Y/n! How's my beautiful girlfriend doing? I'm sorry I couldn't call you earlier. I've been busy with interviews today and-"

"Don't stress, I'm just glad you didn't forget."

He frowns. "Forget what?"

My heart breaks a little but I try not to let it show. Maybe's he's forgotten the day? He loses count because he's always on the road. "I-I thought you'd remember what day it is Shawn," I whisper. "It's my birthday... did you forget?"

The video blacks out but we're still connected.

"Did you think I'd forget?" I hear someone say behind me.

I freeze on the spot and turn around slowly. There infront of me was Shawn, his hair grown long since I last saw him. It curls around and looks silky smooth to the touch. His cheeks are pink and his eyes bright like always. We walk towards each other and he presses his forehead against mine, his hands resting at my hips.

I tip toe to reach his lips and kiss him like I've never kissed. I longed for it so much that I don't want to stop. He chuckles as he pulls away and presses his lips on my forehead.

"When did you come back?" I ask him.

He strokes me cheek with his thumb. How I've missed feeling his touch against my skin. "Don't be mad, but I've been here for a few days. Planning things-"

"Shawn!" I yell, punching his arm.

"Ow!" he says and wraps his arms around me, kissing my neck and making me giggle.

"I've missed you so much," he whispers into my ear. "Happy Birthday Y/n."

Shawn opens the door for me and I step out of his Jeep. I hear the waves crashing in the distance and feel the evening summer breeze skim over my skin, forming goose-bumps.

"You're cold," Shawn says instantly. He pulls his hoodie off and places it around my shoulders. It feels warm and smells just like him.

"I'm glad you're back so I can steal your clothes again," I say, smirking up at him. He plants a kiss on the tip of my nose.

"I'm glad to be back just to see you again." He orders me to take my shoes off and locks them in the car with his. He takes my hand and leads us onto the beach. Since it's so late already, the beach is deserted and the tide is high. We walk close to the water's edge and walk in the sand, leaving footprints behind for the waves to gently roll over and wash away. His fingers stay locked around mine and he swings our arms back and forth occasionally as we talk and walk back down to his car.

He hands me a towel to dry off the wet sand and opens up the back of his car. I gasp as the back seats have been removed temporarily to make space. He's kitted out some duvets and pillows and create a cute little den with fairy lights strung around too. He helps me up onto it and we snuggle down on the duvet, lying down so we can see the sky starting to change colours. I take my hoodie off and wrap it around the both of us. Shawn pulls me closer into him and his warm hands wrap around my waist, warming the skin up. I rest my head on his shoulder.

"This is beautiful," I whisper. "Thank you for coming Shawn, this is the best present ever."

He laughs and turns to me. "You think this is the present? I mean, it's only part of it-"

"Shawn! I didn't want anything else. I only wanted you to call me and you came all the way back home."

"I wouldn't miss my girl's birthday for the world. Look – you see that star over there?"

I follow his gaze and find a small but bright star, sparkling in the darkening pink sky.

"Well, it's yours." He grins as he hears me gasp. "Can you see the other one over there, right next to it that's slightly larger?"

I nod my head and try to memorise the two stars.

"That one's mine. It represents us. It's called a binary star and are very rare to find but burn the brightest. And they're always seen together, no matter what. I thought they match us beautifully."

Shawn pulls out a necklace and it contains a small star at the end of the chain, sparkling beautifully in the dimming light of the sky. He puts it on for me and kisses my cheek, smiling at me. "There. Now you've got the star with you too. So when we are ever apart, just remember to look up at the sky at night and know that you'll never be alone. We've got each other no matter what. "He wipes my cheeks from tears that have escaped my eyes.

"I love you Shawn Mendes, I really love you. I guess it's true when they say some stars are hard to find, but I've found mine." I lean into him and kiss his lips softly, wanting this day to last forever.
