Chapter 26 🔥 The Choice

Start from the beginning

"Yeah right. And how about us?" Amelia sighed, pointing to Daphne and her. "Only the two of them?"

"Well, it's a mission for boys only." Scalia told her with a victorious smile on her lips.

"Oh. . ." Amelia smirked.

"No, you don't!" Rufus tried to stop her but it was too late. Amelia transformed into Melrick in a blink of an eye.

"You were saying?" The shifter asked Scalia arrogantly without giving Rufus a single glance. His baritone voice made Rufus flinch upon hearing it.

"Hmnn. Very interesting." Scalia was studying his features. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity.

"You just don't listen you idiot. How many times you're told not to compromise your identity but you did it anyway. Definitely something is amiss inside that brain of yours." Rufus was fuming.

"Oh yeah? What about yours, dumdum?" Melrick answered using Amelia's voice which made everyone chuckle.

"Are you challenging me?" Rufus was in a brink of losing himself from anger.

"So what if I am? What you gonna do about it, lover boy?"

"Why you impertinent. . ."

"Stop!" Venus cut in. "Can you argue later on? Please?" She looked at Rufus, her eyes begging.

"Yes. Continue it after you survive this or better yet make up now. Who knows it will be your last chance to let go of your sexual frustrations." Scalia said, taunting them.

"Melrick. Next time be careful on your impulsiveness. We may not be as lucky now." Daphne spoke in a quiet voice while her gaze fixed on Scalia which in return made the mermadian uncomfortable. Is it just her or the Siren really takes on her side? But why?

The Queen was itching to know what's inside the Siren's mind. Of what Daphne saw inside the void but she knew better. She might not have that chance at all. After all, the third trial would not allow her to. Scalia wanted to ask her but different words came out of her mouth instead. "Don't worry, your secrets are safe with me." She said looking straight at the male shifter then Venus while avoiding Daphne's penetrating gaze.

"Okay, can you at least give us some heads up on what we're up against?" Agnus spoke for the first time.

"Oh, he speaks!" Scalia chuckled.

"Ha ha ha. Not funny." Melrick retaliated with a sarcastic laugh. His voice and physique really didn't match his character. Amelia's character.

"You're no fun, shifter." Scalia just raised her eyebrow to him then turned to Agnus, "I can't."

"Can't or won't?" Agnus answered in a clenched jaw.

"Both, I guess. Where's the fun in knowing the road ahead? Have some sense of adventure?"

"Not when it's a life and death situation." Rufus butted in, giving Scalia a challenging look.

"It's your choice. You can choose not to do it and you all go to save your two comrades and give up the Pearl."

Scalia's words made all of them stop and look at each other.

"Decide and make it fast. You don't want to be here when the sun sets." Scalia warned them.

"Great! Any more surprises?" Melrick was not able to control himself from retaliating which earned a warning look from Rufus. Scalia only shrugged her shoulders and stepped away from them to give some space to discuss with privacy.

"No matter what, I will go inside the cave to save them. I cannot ask the two of you to risk that much for this quest, not after what Daphne had to go through." Venus said with finality looking directly at Rufus then to Agnus.
