Chapter 27

Vera's pov

Once Ryder and I finished our challenge we cleaned up our trash and left. I turned on some light music in the car while leaning my head on my seat and watching Ryder drive.

"Hey Ryder?" I asked.

"What's up buttercup." He responded before briefly glancing at me.

"Would you do me the honor or being my date to Brittanys party tonight?" I asked while smiling at him.

"Oh my god, is the Vera Allen asking little old me to be her date?!" Ryder said while over exaggerating all of his actions.

"Stop doofus!" I said while laughing.

"Yeah I'll be your date" Ryder said before smirking me.

"Eyes on the road mister." I said before closing my eyes.

"But thank you" I said before pulling out my phone. Coincidentally at the same time my phone started ringing. I picked up when I saw mom on the caller ID.

"Hey mom, what's up?" I asked while sinking back into my seat a little more.

"Sweetie your father and I are going to Australia for a week maybe two, I know it's a little sudden. I know we talked about this but we can't change it darling. It's a business meeting and a few other things. Please understand." My mom said while sounding worried.

"Hey hey don't worry about it, I know what you guys can't change. When are you leaving?" I asked but deflated now.

"Right now, we got the call this morning when you left for school, we've been packing since then. We're so sorry darling I just wanted to call you and let you know before we left." My mom said.

"I went off for lunch today so I can swing by and see you guys off." I said while sounding the least bit hopeful.

"We're already at the airport, I'm sorry baby." My dad voice came.

"It's okay, you guys have fun okay. Send me up dates with what happens. Also I'm going to a party tonight. Just wanted to let you know even though you won't be here." I said a bit dejected now.

"I'm sorry baby, we'll see you when we get back." My dad said before saying goodbye to be and hanging up.

"Why is it that my parents are always going places for business but yours are always here?" I asked while fiddling with my phone.

"My parents company isn't global, yours is." Ryder said before shrugging.

"Whatever it's okay, more freedom for me right?" I said while pouting.

"Hey cheer up V, I'll come over tonight yeah, we can plan more of the revenge prank." Ryder said before reaching over and grabbing my hand.

"Yeah okay," I said before signing.

"Is the school not doing homecoming this year?" I asked while looking out the window.

"No I think instead they're putting he money towards the junior and senior class trip," Ryder said while furrowing his eyebrows.

"Awww dang it, I really wanted to go to homecoming this year," I said while pouting.

"What since when?" Ryder asked while looking surprised.

"Uh since I didn't go last year, I should really experience this stuff before I graduate you know." I said before shrugging.

"And because I wanted to rig the ballot for homecoming all with Bethany's name." I said while shrugging. Ryder shot me a look. I shrugged before smirking.
