‘This cannot be happening’ I thought. I felt numb from within; it spread through my heart and engulfed my body. I felt lost into a deep abyss of darkness, I had already lost so much in life but I didn’t complain after all everything happened for a reason right but this, this was something I had never imagined. At a young age my father had been taken away from me and now my mother was leaving too. I had no one else left in the world no relatives, no siblings no one, my mother was the only family I had if she left well then I wouldn’t have a family to begin with

‘I’m all alone’ I thought, the thought was plain simple and true.

‘Oh Rose, you’re not alone you have with me, I won’t ever leave you’ Serena said

‘Thank you’ I thought but deep inside I knew I would always be alone in the end, after all everyone I had loved was taken away from me. What guarantee did I have that Serena wouldn’t leave me too. The answer was none. I kept these thoughts to myself; it would hurt her if she heard them. So I stayed silent and she interpreted my silence for me worrying about my mother.

‘Rose you need to be strong for you’re mother, don’t loose hope now maybe we can do something to help her. Ask the doctor’ she said, I was slowly losing all hope but her voice was an anchor right now so I complied with her request.

“Docto-r” I began but my voice broke on the first word, it seemed that a lump had somehow made it way into my throat and wouldn’t let me speak so I cleared my throat and began again “Doctor is there anyway we can help her?” I asked slowly.

“Child there nothing we can do medically …” he sighed. His wrinkled face that showed years of knowledge and experience sagged in defeat. ‘Nothing he can do! Nothing HE CAN DO!! WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!’ Serena shouted in my head, anger seeming through her voice causing me to flinch. Although I wanted to show the same emotion and shout at him but all energy suddenly drained from my body to the point where it was difficult for me to sit. My mind suddenly swam and I gripped the edge of the bed to keep me up.

“Doctor what is the supposed to mean can’t you do anything to help her?” this time it was Liam who spoke not Serena this caused me to look up to him, he gave me a small smile one that couldn’t comfort me right now and one that I couldn’t return. Though Liam had spoken to him he looked at me and spoke

“No amount of medicine will help her Rose, if there is anything that can help her its you child. You will have to stay with her and comfort her; try to give her a reason to live and breathe again, that’s all that we could do”

“What if she doesn’t believe that I’m a good enough reason” I said in an emotionless voice as I knew the answer I wasn’t a good enough reason she missed her mate, all this time mother held herself together but now she had finally given up.

‘Please Rose don’t think like that, she loves you remember that’ Serena said

‘I know Serena but you also know that she won’t choose us this time’, her silence confirmed that she too agreed with me. So I looked up to the doctor for an answer

“Then you loose her and she will join her mate” he answered looking straight in my eyes. I nodded slowly and got up, the dizziness was slowly leaving me as I began to accept my mother’s condition.

“Thank you doctor, if there is nothing else left I’d like to be alone now with mother”

“Alright child” he said getting up and picked up the black bag that he brought with him and moving towards the front door. Liam, who had been silent after his inquiry with the doctor, too followed him downstairs. We reached the front door each wrapped around their own thoughts. Before he opened the door to leave the doctor turned to look at me and put something in my hand. I held it up to see that it was a box that seemed battered and old
