“Wolves, the correct term is -”

“Shut up, Jonathan.” I warned.

“Julia, please. They're tricking you, can't you see that?” Derek asked, his eyes critical

I shook my head, “No, they're not!”

Kyle stepped forward; watching Loup and Jonathan wearily. “Julia, what they did....how can you forgive them?”

I sighed, “They didn't mean to – they're -” I looked at Jonathan. “Uh, please, Kyle, they are my friends and they weren't trying anything on us. Believe me, I know.”

I saw the old Brother appear in his black eyes just for a second, but it was gone; replacing someone else. “Yes, they are. They have always lied to you. Listen to me, I'm your Brother, Julia. Trust me, they are dangerous.”

I stopped cowering, saying everything that was burning in my heart, “Kyle, you're not my Brother. You haven't been him since we came here!” The tears were pouring down my cheeks. “You're just like Mom, Kyle.”

The words had an effect on him; I could see how much it hurt in his eyes. The moment of distress escaped his eyes and there was nothing but abhorrence. Loathing towards me; such dire piercing hate.

“Go with them then, since you're not my Sister anymore.” Kyle said through his teeth.

Jonathan's eyebrows came together with anger, “Kyle, you can't mean that -”

“Shut up, Jonathan.” Kyle snapped.

I looked at Derek and Donny, “Just please hear me out. They are not like you think, they're good.”

Derek was befuddled, “Julia, please, their kind don't belong with out kind.” He reached out with his hand. “Please, Julia.” He begged.

I thought fast, “Yes, we do. Our kind was made to be with their kind; we're their Guardians. We protect them when they are lost, right?”

Donny shook his head, “That was a long time ago Julia.”

“Exactly!” I boomed. “Loup and Jonathan had nothing to do with that; they're okay.” I tried to reassure.

Donny's fire disappeared from his fist; his expression calm. “Julia, are you sure?” he asked.

Derek turned to him, “What are you talking about? You're not serious?”

Donny glared at Derek, “She's family.” He moved his head toward the house. “Come in, we'll talk about it inside.”

I was in shock; a happy unbelievable stupor. I grabbed Loup and Jonathan's hand. I kept my head low avoiding Kyle and Derek's eyes. Rosa was also following my lead; by hiding and seemingly nervously biting her lip.

Jonathan was staring at her with an odd look; almost angry look on his face. I pulled him closer to me; afraid that they were going to snatch him away from me.

Loup leaned towards my ear, “What are you doing, Julia?”

“Saving your life.” I said.

I was putting up a brave front, though my insides were in a storm, a powerful distressing storm.

“You shouldn't do this, Julia, it's not safe to be near us.” He whispered in that soft voice I remembered; the voice that cuddled near me in those poppy field dreams.

“Not safe?” I asked; looking at his features and making sure he had soft eyes that matched his alluring voice.

He swallowed, “I”m trying to save your life and I can't do that if I'm – if we're near you.”
