“Where are we going now?” I asked.
He sighed, “Far away from any wolf clans.”
“Then we better get out of the city, we should go to the country and stay for a couple weeks. So, you know, you can rest.” I pushed.
He eyed me suspiciously and I tried to act as if I were looking at the tall skyscrapers. “Up state New York, you mean?”
“That sounds perfect.” I said, bitting my lip. I'm glad he bought me the sunglasses, otherwise he would see right away that I'm up to something.
He nodded, awfully calm, “Alright, we should find a suitable home there.”
I turned and looked at someone who was watching us keenly, “We need to get out of the city tonight. Who knows if they found out we've escaped yet.”
Loup nodded with a firm grim mouth. He's been so quiet lately, so serious. Something must have happened to make him act like this; so lifeless. Maybe it was the torture, but he's stronger than that. Something terrible must've happened to make him like that.
“Alright.” he hailed a cab and got in.
I followed.
We found this abandoned country house that wasn't far from where Julia's Uncle lived. Hopefully she'd be there, if not, I'll search for her until I find her. Maybe it was selfish of me, maybe it was an idiotic idea, but after all that I went through I don't want to spend another second without her.
Loup was sitting on the roof, watching the night sky. The poor guy is going through something, but if I didn't have something better to do, I'd be enjoying the fresh air and the half moon in the sky.
I used this situation to my advantage and ran to the woods, running as fast as I could, but I would need to be Phoenix to truly be able to successfully find her. You better be here, Julia. I sighed and started to take my clothes off and put them in my mouth.
I turned into Phoenix, using all my energy not to make any sounds. The wolf sniffed the air; she was close. She was so fragrant, the mixture of soft plum and roses. My tongue hanged out of my mouth as I ran, following the smell.
Soon, I came by a house. It was nice and tall with a dusty porch. She was all over it, which made me very excited. I howled to the moon in exhilaration. I ran to the west side of the house and heard footsteps on the porch, so I ran and hid behind a bush.
There were two men, similar to Kyle on the porch looking about with those odd eyes of Julia's. The taller older one just shook his head and shrugged, while the younger one laughed and went back in. They started to play music, laughter bubbled from the home. This will be her first birthday party, well besides the one her Brother and I gave her, which consisted of going to a drive-in.
The wind brushed by and I caught her scent again. She was close. I followed my nose until I was at the back of the house, and there she was, sitting on the balcony edge. Her hair being swept back and her amazing eyes staring up at the moon with the same expression as Loup's; cold, deprived, sad, and lifeless almost.
Her head turned and she was gone within an instant. But then she came back, but someone else was with her. It was that man that she didn't want to meet. She smiled at him and started opening a silver box.
It was a necklace, a pearl necklace. He lifted her hair with such friendliness and placed it on her graceful neck, and then he kissed her. He kissed her with such passion, it made me growl.
But, then I saw her face after. She looked guilty, but smiled at him. She was lying to herself; to him. She could fool him, but not me. Then he left her alone. I wouldn't have done that; he's an idiot. She can't be alone on her birthday, especially after everything.
